    maXmood's Sketchbook

    Hi All

Finally i decided to start this.. and when i did, my scanner decided not to work, so i snapped those pics with my iphone.. crappy i know.

a little about me.. My name is Mahmood, i'm almost 32, always wanted to draw, but doodles is all i can do. i wanna improve, i'm not looking for a career, but a hobby. below are my sketches, or doodles, or whatever you wanna call them. i don't know what to focus on, and i don't know where i wanna go.

C&Cs are welcome, good or bad.. push me towards being better at it.

    Thanks
    maX

Cool stuff! What's your main long term goal, like in terms of style or genre? Something comic book related?

I started drawing in June and made a blog about it. Oh boy!

    I have a sketchbook too.

Well you can't go wrong learning the same kind of stuff that most people here are learning then, which means "drawing on the right side of the brain", Loomis books, Bridgman, anatomy, head studies, hand studies, etc. Along with practicing traditional figure / contour stuff I'm also working my way through a book on drawing cartoon characters. After spending hours on a portrait it's really nice being able to crank out some decent looking cartoon dudes in a few minutes. I've found they're also good for practicing blind contour drawing on, a concept from DOTRSOTB.

I started drawing in June and made a blog about it. Oh boy!

    I have a sketchbook too.

i've read couple of books long time ago, mainly for beginners, i thought i was missing something, so i gave them a shot to try and build up a good fundamental, but unfortunately, all of em were really "basic".. so i haven't gained anything out of em.

i'm gonna give DOTRSOTB a shot and see if it makes any difference.

    thanks again

Nice update, have you tried gestures? I think they would help you loosen up then build on top.

I see you did some really nice skulls in #9. It would benefit your drawings if you applied the geometrics of the skull to your heads that you've drawn.

Great progress you have here! Best of luck!

good pace here! i like that, nice to see you try realism, its good not to rely on those absctractions that work for toons and anime or anything between those lines, because you have to have a working knowledge before you start making your own stuff keep doing what you are doing man, but also try to read a bit on how to build the figure i recommend either hampton or vilppu for that they are a bit boring for some people, but when you learn their stuff, thats when the real fun starts

my sketchbook! Drawing like a maniac!!

    My Blog

Destroy your weaknesses! theres nothing more to it! stop bitching grab that pencil and sketch Away!

Thanks for dropping by... yes, i think realism is the way to honing the skills and getting a better understanding on how things are constructed... i will look up the two artists u mentioned and see how their books can benefit me..

    thanks again
