My idea for a pin-up was a figure representing hope to the fighters in the form of a futuristic angel with jetpack instead of wings. Her appearance is more like 'the girl at home' the troups are fighting for, as opposed to a fellow soldier.
Beautiful enough for the men but also angelic enough for the ladies (I hope), her image is often painted on ships and also projected into space from earth as a send off or welcome home for the troups.
In the future the ideal figure filled out a bit after the increasingly annorexic fashions of the late 2000s and the dull, pale skin of the many out-of-sun dwellers has set a trend of extreme hair/make-up shades which help catch the eye.
Here's my entry! ^_^
Pin-up for an EDU recruitment poster.
Erk, I guess it's done! I forgot the character sheet and I don't know if I have time to make one before the deadline If I do I'll edit it in. If I don't make the poll here's my pinup anyway.
edit: whew, a sheet:
and I remembered I had these practice things done halfway through:

My concept is of a pin up for a pilot's ship, the Rocket Rena. Rocket Rena must fight through countless waves of enemies and shoot bosses in conveniently placed weak points. It is the last hope of the EDU!
I took a slightly different approach. Didn't care for guns...So space ninja!
Kinda turned out looking more like a propaganda poster than a pinup girl.
Cant wait for the next one!
Apparently when I calibrated my monitor for photoshop it worked!

I am such a huge cluts. I completely missed the back and front sheet and the E.D.U thing.
I made my own logo without thinking about it.
Guess that leaves me out of this round, but I'll post mine anyway.
No wall is too high for the Mobile.Air.Assault.Team.
Go get'em, soldier!
@Christoffer: You still have like 4 hours to whip something up. Also, you could just say that M.A.A.T. is just a division of EDU.
In this future, half of Earth is a fiery wasteland. As long as Juke Joint Jezebel's sailing through the skies, the rest of the planet is in good hands.

Centuries ago, EDU Commander Lenora "Lucky Lenny" Salcedo's family came from Arizona. Now, after flying on the frontier for most of her life, increasing attacks on the homeworld have finally pulled her back to the globe that gave her birth, and she's got a new paint job to represent.
With this challenge, I wanted to really think about what clothing and fashion and cultural standards could be like in a future where we live among the stars, and to show the typical sexy, non-combat lady who might be waiting for our valiant pilot back home.
Almost too late
Didnt have time to post any wips and make character sheet( i also thought that because the objective was a pinup image the char sheet wasnt that important and failed to see/remember in time that it was required)
Yesterday, I posted one minute before the time limit announced in the brief and I thought no addition was allowed.
Today i feel that I should post at least i the explanation from the wips a little more elaborate --- As opposed to the ww2, in the future war women take part in the war as a full fledged soldiers equal to the opposing sex and therefore i thought that fashion wise I might get my pinup around this idea instead of the civil or more sensual clothing specific to pinups ...
So the junk beside the rocket stand is a future soldier's gear - body armor, leggins- cuisse+poleyne+part of grave under inners suit, gun, pouldron and upperarm(just found out most of the names from medieval suits )

Going for sort of a 'Fifth Element' meets 'Starcraft' vibe here.

No internets at the weekend, so no posting for me! I was really torn on this one. Here's what I thought...
Agent Melon, you got my vote. Great take on the pin up, with good bit of campyness and painterly style. Really hit the brief.
And one's I didn't quite vote for but really liked...
Christoffer, loved the design, but I think the punchiness was lost with the colour version. A higher contrast between her and the background might've popped her out a bit.
Parsakoira, great character, but I didn't think she was overtly sexy enough to be a pin up.
Buttermonster, great design and style.
Obstfelder, classic patriotic design, I don't really have any crits, but I think it could've been weirder. (or something - I don't really know...)
Callorgi, very 80's, and good to see a slightly different spin on it.
Mitze, reminded me o vietnam. Nice.
Some blogging - http://tomercs.blogspot.com/
Great round! I'm no expert or anything, but had some random thoughts for sharing!
Mitze – haha, excellent painting! Like her kinda ‘tongue-in-cheek’ expression I like the texture & design of the poster, the character is v. well done, one of the best paintings here, only complaint is I don’t think her design is as strong.
The Mike – I think your foundation drawing is solid, but your painting left a bit to be desired. Too bad cuz I like your character. I can’t really tell you how to fix it, other than spend more time getting to a finished level. I think the glowy straps look odd, the gun looks very flat and dominated the image since it’s so dark and all the bkgd lines point to it. I think her face is almost there, maybe if you put some stronger lighting and tightened up the edges/line detail that would do it. I don’t really like the drop shadow on the text, I think it is too distracting, rather than a background element (look at Mitze poster for example here!) In general cleaning up the edges and refining the lighting would be my next step? I think yours had a lot of potential, there’s a nice character there.
Dycue87 – Like it Cool style, nice simplification. I think the background poster doesn’t complement the character as well as it could, and I don’t like the poster colors so much. I like the campy expression!
Buttermonster – Awesome style, I think your character is hilarious, and the rocket ship too (also nice design). Your sketches & inking is great, the ink work you did on the ship’s model sheet page is excellent. The final has the same problem (for me) that your last one did, it looks a bit washed out and doesn’t have a clear focus area. I think if you kept your ink lines darker, at least near the characters face, etc – it would help. You have lots of great detail but It gets lost in all the midtones – I think fading the text out and trying to make the character “pop” more would go a long way, in my opinion, I’m not expert tho.
Varguy – Love your painting style – like the loose, painted texture. “earth needs you” doesn’t match the rest of the painting tho. I think your character design also isn’t as strong as it could be, maybe the pose is too flat to the camera? Can’t really give advice, your painting ability is great!
Christoffer – I’d say the same the I said about “TheMike” – good foundation, but needs more love. I think another pass with lighting and cleaning up the edges could go a long way. Also maybe some highlighting coming off the rocket flames would help – orange colors would be a nice complement to the steel blue everywhere else. I think the gun in her left is the best rendered part.
Agent Melon – Nice thumbnail designs! Your modelsheet is really good, you have several good designs , I like the one you chose, it’s got a little bit of an oldschool throwback look to it. The painting is great, hahaha - I love the expression! And the protruding teeth, lol! The text is great too! Haha, again kinda has a ww2 corny-propoganda thing going on. You did your hw on this one
Parsakoira – Wow! Great painting. I like the colors, and how you mixed colors from the sky & bkgd into the character. It looks nice without being over-rendered. Everything has a nice sense of volume. I like your composition and your character design is probably my favorite too. Very original
Callergi – Hahaha! I love how corny yours is – sweet jesus lol. It cracked me up The way she is riding that rocket is hilarious. Your painting is nice. I like all the junk parts you added for some reason. The pose is great, you nailed the expression! The poster looks nice on the side of the ship. That’s a hell of a background to throw in there. Good job man.
Phaethon - Like yours a lot. Nice design, great style You thought a lot about the design on the model sheet and it’s great – I like your clean linework, and even the star designs are nice – you have probably the nicest model sheet of them all (imo..) - Your charaters arms and hands seem particularly short, especially her right arm and left forearm – it looks intentional but also odd.
