Nice stuff some gorgeouse portraits in here. I think maybe you have the opoacity set bit too low in photoshop and thats causing your colours to apparear thin and smudgy at the mo (specifically relating to your last two digi studies). Try workinhg my depth in to the colours this will help with contrast between light and darks.

I think maybe you like painting lips a lot which is cool as they are very expressive and key in portraits. I have ceratin parts of the body that I seem to be naturaly more intrested in and have a tendancy to exagerrate these in realtion to the whole image. At the moment your lips tend to sit or float ontop of the surface of the face and look to prominant if that makes sense. Maybe pay more attention to the values and coulours surrondeing them to help intergarte them into the face.

I think with your flesh tones you should push the darks a bit more, espc in areas like the eyes sockes and around the nose this will help give more form to your portraits. Think of describing the form of the face as your pinating over the surface of the skin and the transitions from light to darks as the planes shift. Loomis is pretty good for face plane studies I think.

You have a really good eye for colour and detail. Flesh tones are never easy and you paint them very well and you have a good ability to capture a likeness and emotion in your portraits. I like that a lot. Maybe do some studies from life in photoshop or pencil it will help your painting a lot in terms of describing form.

Really like the direction your taking your studies. Being able to convey emotion in faces will really help sell your character designs and draw people in, so its a good thing to focus on.

Nice portrait all the same. Maybe post a photograph next time so others can see maybe where your off if you don't think you have captured a great likeness. Think portraits are really about getting proportions and shapes right in terms of capturing a true likeness. But its looking pretty solid to me, but then I don't know what your mother looks like. But tis another great portrait study. Thanks for stopping by my sketchbook, I will def keep and eye on yours. Its always good to see people improve and try and be a part of that.

haha, woah. I drew my mom right after you drew your mom... awesome. try and keep in mind the planes, and also to organize your values into at least 4 values (2 lights, and 2 darks). I see that your values are very mushed (a technical term, lol)and disorganized creating somewhat uninteresting shapes. I have issues with this as well. I will post an example tomorrow night that does this very well. It is not my drawing (cause I suuuuuuuuck T.T).

ja1307, i've thought about posting the references i've used but they are totally different so it would be better if i don't do it haha : D

I think i have some big problem with lighting and values, most of the things i've posted here are color picked, except the last ones >.>
Can you recommend me some books or tutorial in internet, please? I bought Color and Light and Imaginative Realism by James Gurney, hope they will help me!

so here i will post some wip

As you can see the face is horrible, i need to add some more colors and edit the eyes/nostrils so i have a lot of work to do. Anyway hope you like it for now.

I registered just to tell you this, try dropping the Flow of your round hard brush to 40% instead of 100% and do the exact same you've been doing and see the difference

    Kesryth,
I am really thankful about this! I am going to try it next time i paint digitally!
Really, really this means a lot haha! You even registered because of this! ^_^

    ja1307,
Honesly i think that i am really bad with faces and everything. For me, they look so emotionless and static. But thank you, for your opinion!

    Merry Christmas!

    very nice studies!
be careful not to let your shadows get too muddy (usually happens from mixing in too much black)
    keep posting!

I like your cross hatch sketching on the pencil drawing, your hand and feet drawings are good i can see you have a good understanding of the human body particularly the female body, i prefer to draw females too.

i feel like i would like to make you a friend and keep my eye on you because we are at the same pace i think
I must catch you up on hands and feet though im improvingfaces atm

Nick, thank you for reminding me. Now I am gonna die forever sad because im seeing younger people who are better than me xD

kevin, you check my sb often, thank you for all the attention, man! ^^

Arteast, i am being flattered but i should say that on most of the portraits i have color picked. On the last ones no, but the previous ones - yes. Trying to get rid of the problem, but it is really really hard! I feel like i am colorblind haha

Brave-New-Wold (haha would be easier if i knew your name!)
Sometimes i feel weird about drawing only females. I always tell myself how should i try some males. But it feels like an obsession heh. And if you make me draw some leg with details, trust me it wont be very good hehe.

Definately, I do like meeting new people. Feel free to write me if you are interested! - mandragora-screamm
    let's learn together!

ps. everyone who is up to the same, write me

16 only? We've got ourselves a prodigy here :] I have problems with legs too; I think some classical bridgeman studies would really help your solid understanding of light. Keep up the good work!

"A drawing is not necessarily academic because it is thorough, but only because it is dead. Neither is a drawing necessarily academic because it is done in what is called a conventional style, any more than it is good because it is done in an unconventional style. The test is whether it has life and conveys genuine feeling."- Harold Speed
