    dableu's sketchbook

    Hello!
My name is Kate, I'm 17. Since some time I have been visiting this forum and finally decided to show you some of my work (though it wasn't easy while I was watching all the great art here ).
I want to learn some new things, so your critique is welcomed.

Looking at your work, you have a pretty good eye for seeing general forms, but I think you need to work particularly on construction and color. It might be helpful to "draw through" what you're drawing to help form a 3-dimensional image of it in your mind. Examples of what I'm talking about here.

As for color, you have some really bold choices with it, which is not a bad thing to have, but they're falling short of believable. I'd suggest doing some color studies.

c: Great work so far, keep it up! I can't wait to see what you've got for us next.

If you have the time, please stop by my sketchbook, Chock Full o'Nuts.
I would appreciate any advice or critiques.

You're on the right track with your studies! I think you improved with your colors too. All I can point out is that the area below the lady's eyes in your last post isn't quite green, looks more like a darker shade of the base color of her skin to me. Other than that, I think you did well with the flesh tones.

    all heading good direction

    are you learning from loomis

personally i claim that hampton or hogharts or bringdam (anatomy drawing books) are better and more up to date

also you should check gllenn villpu videos (all of them) couse in books some things are omitted and for beginner they can be crucial

    cheers and keep it going

Hey, nice start to your sketchbook, keep it updated regularly and your progress will show. Also none of the pieces of art you do are failures, they are marking your progress and helping you to learn. The great artists here all started somewhere to, hard work and perserverance pay off, and you are surrounded by people here who know that and will help you . Keep working hard and creating art!

Good studies! Be careful to pay attention to values and contrast though, post 5 and 10 has good attention to them but the one of the bird in 13 feels a little flat due to the lack of contrast I think. Keep this up though!

JonHop - Thank you for such motivating post I'll keep it in my mind
mudd - I agree, contrast is one of my blind spots, I must work with it

Some hair studies, I just hope it'll get better

The lighting on the portrait is nice, and the hair studies you did a few days ago are really cool, too!
