Playing around with alchemy. (NSFW content)

    Hi there,

I am trying to work on some of the doodles I made with alchemy a week ago or so:

I started working on the one in the top left corner. Here is what I got so far:

Still trying to figure out some shapes but I like where this is headed overall. There are quite a few things I want to change still but the part I am really stuck on right now is the area below the head. I am not sure what to do there yet, any suggestion would be appreciated. Gonna increase the resolution to put more details in once the basic lines are in there.

I must be stupid for not thinking Alchemy is a way to produce interesting concept silhouettes. Some of those made me think "Rorscharch test!" and others already looked like video game bosses. The one you're working on is super creepy, but the bat ear things remind me hilariously of Patamon. Sorry, I still watch/love that show.

It would be interesting to see where you will take this. I think the symmetry really enhances the creep factor. If it wasn't Alchemy-done, you wouldn't have that.
I'm new here. My young-adult sci fi webcomic, Firework, may be found here. It's not very good. Thanks in advance for helping me become a better artist.

@powerful.pineapple Thanks for dropping a line here .

Yeah alchemy is quite useful for those, you should have a look at the other ones I made in my sketchbook. Some are quite abstract I admit but it takes like 10 seconds to make one, 2 minutes when I find an interesting shape and decide to slow down and finish it a bit more carefully. So I can create a whole lot of them and then select the best ones.

There are a few parts I don't like with this piece. The eyes look to exotic for me to detail them, I want to make them more realistic and fix the anatomy issues. I liked those weird metallic 'pigtails' I did on the sides initially but I am not sure anymore now.

Here is an update, went into some other direction. One of my friends told me to break the symmetry a bit.

Another update, tried to settle the main colors a bit, cleaned up, added a few features on the helm. I am also diverging from the initial design a bit, I tried to simplify the helm by removing the little dragons at the top.

At this point I think I need some inputs, one thing I am worried about is the volume/dept, right now it s still pretty flat.

I am keeping at it, It's getting increasingly difficult to make progress, I have used a reference to fix some anatomy issues. It was a rough fix, I think there are still odd looking parts.

I am not 100% sure for the light yet, I want to keep that face fairly symmetric some maybe something in front of the face at some angle?

I made a first attempt at shading but I don't think it s consistent with the kind of light I want, I think I need a reference for that too.

I worked quite a bit on the patterns on the helm, I like the top part but I am not sure about the bottom one yet.

Her head looks kinda wide. It's better than in your initial drawing, but it still feels a little off.

Maybe take some ideas from your other shapes. Like the one that looks like a queen in the sixth column. Or the one at the bottom of the second column that looks like a laughing aristocrat. You've got alot of cool stuff to work with.

You are right, I was wondering what was wrong, the helm makes it hard to find mistakes.

I have other pages of silhouettes in my sketchbook, gotta have another look at them too ^^.

Fairly minor update, fixed the proportions a bit, I scaled the whole thing horizontally, I think I have to make the shoulders a bit wider again. Restarted the overall shading, trying to go a bit slower this time. I need critics, anything .

    Wow, I love Alchemy.

Some constructive crit: Not sure how and if to approach this but it would be a good idea to shade and better define the relation between the mask and her face.
right now it looks like the mask surrounds the face and the face is too horizontally contorted ( in other words :where would you place the hypothetical nose-mouth-chin?)

then again if her mask Is in front of her face it could be assumed that the chin is hidden behind it but since there is not much shading of depth variance there its hard for me to tell

Quick update, I tried to add volume to the bottom side of the helmet. I also did some work that s not seen here which is to put the helmet on a separate layer. I'll keep working on it today. Gotta add some details on those snakes.

Ok I think most features are in, I don't how far I should push that one, but I'll keep working on it for at least a couple more hours. I want to focus on the skin now, maybe rework the snakes to make them less cartoony and adding shading and maybe more background context.

Edit: attachment failed for some reason, redoing the post.
