Female Warrior will be glad for some criticism
Hi guys! Here's my new concept of a female warrior and I'll be very thankful for some critics o advises...
The most important for me is critics about the concept and anatomy of the character. I'll be also glad to hear about her armour.
I'm working as a freelance illustrator but I paint mainly stuff for children and I want to be better at painting more realistic and learn more about human anatomy and your critics will be very hepful for me...
I can handle everything what you'll tell :p

Also overall the anatomy looks bit off everywhere, but especially in the hands and feet (same as her other eye is drooping down) and I'm not sure what some of those armor parts are, like the one between her legs. Does she have iron panties or is it just a weirdly positioned hip guard?
Do you have an underdrawing for the feet and hands?
Also I'd really suggest you research armor bit more, most of those look more like random steel plates rather than anything that'd be part of an actual armor. And her shoes look just like modern shoes, and I'm not sure if that was intentional from your part or not. Also the really short handle look bit hilarious on a sword of that size (which would realistically be a two hand sword) considering she looks like an otherwise normal human.

EDIT: As goog mentioned previously it's a subjective thing. If one of the males from this universe dressed in a similar way it wouldn't exactly alleviate the problem but it would provide some context. Generally the "rule" is that if people have access to metal armor and they use it, then they're focused on protection rather than the practice of showing skin to instill fear. Some barbarian warriors did just that, since the cloth that wore day-to-day did little to stop swords and spears, so showing skin was a way of proving how badass they were without passing over important armor (since they really had none). But even chain mail armor was so prizes that only chieftains wore it, so you can bet that armor was preferable to skin.

TinyBird and Rainville you're right (and Rainville show it very exactly on his sketch...) - armour I've created is not good for protecting her at all. Maybe her tits look good in it but it's all... it's just my fancy for this kinda armours - but what about this whole adds to skyrim for example where every man want woman in the game to have ass and tits all naked? No matter if she can fight like this or not? I don't argue because I know you're right but I'm only curious... :p so when you create female character for fantasy game for example you should make it look right and realistic or to fulfil man's fantasies? :p
TinyBird - I know anatomy is not good enough but I'm trying to learn more... Maybe some advice - Can I learn anatomy from books and photos? Or the only way to know it right is to draw from alive model?
Sorry if my english is tangled... it's hard to express what I want to say because it's not my native language...

Silly armour aside
- her far eye looks too small; you would not get that much of a perspective shift on a realistic face
- her sword scabbard would rest against her back and so *would* be in perspective, not just drawn as if it were flat. Also, how does it attach to her back, superglue? The only free strap it could be attached to is too loose and on the wrong shoulder.
- you need reference for the pose. If you rest a hand on the hip, the fingers will spread apart. Also, the stance looks ambiguous and awkward. It would be better if you chose a stance with a clear silhouette and solid foot placement. (Especially for a warrior. She's not a fashion model and you are undermining the message you are sending with your pose choice.)
Edit: that braid is just asking to get grabbed from behind, too. Cut it short, wrap it up, or put spikes in it like Pierce suggests in the Tortall books.

You can execute one concept in many ways, some ways more tasteful than others.
Also I'd make sure that if the armor doesn't protect, then at least it doesn't hinder the character either (like with all those armor tops that have spikes that most likely would stab their wearers to the stomach if the tried to bend), or that there's other protection, like wearing a leather shirt (which gives some protection, actually to that point that eventually it replaced chain mail even in real life) under the armor bikini, etc.
Also think of the world the character lives in, if the world/community supports the chainmail bikini look, and like Jason said, and it's a common way for other people to dress in for whatever reason (hot environment, much looser way with nudity, the armor is not even supposed to protect and is there just to show off, like Native American eagle feathers/war prizes/something like that, etc) and it's taken to its logical end (as in the guys of same rank/job dress the same, instead of women dressing in bikinis and guy dressing in full plate armor) then sure if you follow it through in the design, but if this character lives in, say, averagely realistic medieval world where any nudity above showing ankles is a horror, then having a character like this as an average royal knight is starting to look pretty transparent.
EDIT: And it's not like only men play fantasy games, so fulfilling women's fantasies should be just as important when designing (even if it might be about not having every female character be half-naked).
EDIT EDIT: Okay though "fantasies" might be a bad choice of words, but more like, that a lot of women generally appreciate if they can see variety in female characters and that not all of them are designed men in mind. It makes getting into things easier.

yeah I know not only men play fantasy games - I was just only wondering about "sexy female warrior look" phenomenom... vinerys and TinyBird thanks a lot - your comments help me very much to understand some things... I've got some big lack in knowledge about anatomy and characters and first I need to catch up with it before I can design anything...
thanks for the books and sites! I;ve already have Loomis book but others would be very helpful.

I don't really agree with some of the "this and that wouldn't be realistic in a real combat" comments. Isn't this caracter supposed to be a concept for a fantasy setting? Realism in that sense isn't really expected in my opinion.
The only thing that bugs me (aside anatomical flaws which I feel I can't point out due to my lack of expertise) is that somehow the concept looks similar to Leina from Queen's Blade.

No it wasn't my inspiration... it's the first time I'm seeing this character... I had no inspiration at all - I'm just playing a lot of Skyrim last months :p

But you know - I can always make her boobs and ass more on top, but if I ever want to create characters for serious productions it's better for me to learn how to make good, serious armour...

Willing Suspension of Disbelief. "Fantasy" as a setting can mean almost anything, but it doesn't mean that every fantasy setting would go with every concept and that every fantasy concept put to critique should be handwaved with "oh, it's fantasy". A design that would totally work in low-fantasy comedy work wouldn't necessarily work in a realistic high-fantasy work.
I might actually suggest for Jameli to take this concept and re-design it for different settings/genres, like one which can be totally fantastic and just look cool (like the armor stays up just with magic or something), something that's still moderately fantasy but still work on what's it supposed to, and one where you really try to make it as reasonable as you would expect it needing to be in real life situation.
It could be a fun practice and give you a chance to study armor and still keep the same idea.

TinyBird it's a great idea I'll make something like this in my free time, and I'll show you results... But what about braid, her face, silhouette and pose - does it suck so much so it's better to change it? I don't agree with Vinerys about braid - then what about dwarfs' beards? You also can grab it... It's lower I agree but still :p

You'll never see me complaining about the bikins on the sorceress in Oglaf (nsfw) because she's a ridiculous dominatrix in a sex farce. She's supposed to be running around in bikini armour. If your stated purpose is to design a warrior, though, and you don't preface it with "for softcore porn" then I'm going to take exception to design decisions that undermine the warrior message, especially if they're not particularly original.
It would be like deciding to create a fantasy Hawai'i where everyone wears parkas all the time. Why not? Except that it makes people question why the fuck they're there. Of course the chainmail bikini is no longer even questioned, a ridiculous convention that is now so completely mainstream that it's weird when you don't see it.
