My character design of a Keymaster
My entry. She has 4 heads so she can see in all directions, as well as into the soul of all who seek into the magical realms. She is shown here brandishing the keys for the realms of fire and light. The others are attached to her belt chain.

Gifted with unnatural long life, the Keymasters are born with a large vibrant red plume on their heads and glowing white eyes to signify their lineage. They alter and bend the lives of many, offering guidance to champions of the seven elements without bias. Once they reach their third lifetime however their eyes begun to dull to from white to yellow eventually dying out with them at cool red, leaving their keys in the care of the next Keymaster.
Finished. Not pleased with colouring, prefer the black and white, anyway here is the concept.
The Keymaster is based on the idea of a crocodile king. The keys he wears act as his badge of office. He carries with him a staff with an eternal flame, it is here that the birds that follow him around fly into when it is needed to use a key. The keys only become usable once their corresponding bird flies in the flame. I am running on the idea of regeneration, so like a phoenix, a baby bird comes out of the flames as the other dies. The death of the bird makes the corresponding gate appear, and only then can the gatekeeper use the keys around his neck.
Nice work everyone!
The first Dwarf chosen of all the Keymasters, born Beren Gravelchip of the Tribal Mountain clans, he now serves as Keymaster, much to the dismay of the officials in the capital, including himself!
The Keymaster is the only one who can control the seven keys. She is born with the seed of her successor inside of her.
On the eve of the previous keymaster's death, a child is found born at the moment of their passing. This child is raised in secrecy, until at the age of 10 years, they are cast inside the 10 elemental gates as the final trial of the keymaster. Their mortal form is lost inside the tumultuous elemental energy contained inside the gates, and it is only when the child becomes one with the elements that they gain the power to use the keys they inherited. At this point, the remaining life-force of the child is bound within the golden chains and they become the warden of the keys until their death.
This is my first CHoW so I hope I've done everything correctly!

First CHOW! Let's do this!
Sometimes the stress of isolation, their duty, and the ability to look into souls of the keys and the people around them makes the Keymaster mistrustful and half-wild. But they are nevertheless pampered and indulged, as only they can use the keys and distinguish them apart.
The Keymaster is a very dark and depressive character. He has been cursed with a heavy responsibility that has only come from chance. Bearing clothes that rival those of a high-born in his society, they represent a materialistic side that is not in tune with his spiritual mind. Paranoid because many seek to use him yet arrogant because his purpose is still vital.
The position of Keymaster is held by an advanced alien species. The keys are round electronic devices which emit a special light signal for each pairing electronic lock. The electronic chain that holds the keys together is provided by energy emitted by the technology they are burdened to carry on their backs at all times. They are both admired in their society for the special role they play and looked at with contempt for their disgusting appearance.
Among their race, the number of horns symbolizes status - most are born with two or three, someone of great power and destiny may be born with as many as five. Only the vaunted Keymaster is born with a full seven horns, a symbol of the seven elements they safeguard.
"Being a young Keymistress is often a bore. Even the floating pillow has lost its appeal..."
Awesome entries guys! Very inspiring! Can't wait for the next one
I've chosen to portray the character of the week as a dark and mysterious keymaster. In this illustration he stands in front of the water element hall entrance and carries around his neck, the key to that door.
Thanks to the extra day I have a chance to upload! Great characters everyone.
I think his chain would be made of a hard metal with gold coating. Although he seems to be living in luxury, the role of keymaster is a great burden on his freedom.
The gods are blind, and only through the eyes of the keymaster can they see the hearts of men. Tamar has only one memento from the life she was never allowed to live. All of the power in the world can't stop the dreams about what could have been, had she been born but a second later.
(My first time! I hope this isn't too much pic-spam >.> )
The Keymasters are granted a life of luxury, but kept isolated and imprisoned. The dark arts used to keep them alive for as long as possible gives them a sickly, un-human look.
