    Whimsnicole's Sketchbook

    Hey guys. After a couple years of lurking around the site, I finally decided to make myself a sketchbook. My name's Nicole, I'm 17, I'm going to an art school next year, and I'm looking for some advice to improve. So yes, without further ado...art!

    EDIT: Oh, well I'm 18 now, and in art school, yay. Still looking to improve and hopefully become an illustrator one day. c:

    Here are some studies that I've been doing in the past week to kick things off. c:

    Er, yea, I couldn't get my scanner working today so these are just really bad pictures.

    Here are some studies that I did yesterday and this morning. c:
    It seems like Loomis studies are popular here, haha.

    I'm completely confused on how to draw environments properly ugh.

    Wow, I'm actually updating daily. Given how lazy I am, this is a miracle haha.
    I'm just gonna quickly upload some studies from yesterday/this morning before I leave for my graduation ceremony. Note that the Leyendecker piece...well that was the most frustrating thing to draw, and I still couldn't get the features quite right.
    Tips and advice would be greatly appreciated. c:

    Thanks for your comments. c: I'll keep it all in mind.

    Blargh
    Some perspective things for Dile_'s study group/mentor thing and some figures.
    I'm pretty sure I'm getting worse at gestures/figures.

    Oh boy, it's been a while. I was super busy with my school assignments, but I've finally finished my first semester at art school! Now that it's winter break, I thought I'd use this free time to draw some more and spend time here. c:

    Here're some loomis studies I did today and a wip of some personal art, yay. Oh, and it was my birthday yesterday so I'm 18 now ahhhh where did the time go.

    Submission for the day.

    Decided to add some quick landscape/color studies to the mix. And a quick doodle/wip.

    A few measly sketches. A lil busy with the holidays to draw anything substantial.
    Ugh I really need someone to push me to update/study more.

    Your last color/landscape study looked good. I could almost feel the atmosphere in the second study with the lake. Great work on the Skyfall portrait study as well. Keep posting!

    Just entering Art school huh? watch out from spending too much time with the wannabe artist who smoke way too much weed and don't do anything at all haha. Your line quality is really sharp and smooth which is.. really awesome. Your figures are looking good and your portraits are as well for the most part, but I would recommend you flipping the canvas more often. Your colors are looking great! Something that I know I have to work at ;] Keep working hard! and keep updating

    Eep, just some arms/legs studies and a random doodle to test out a new pen.

    Omg comments yay.

    @roogoo Haha, thanks for the push. Heh, that's the plan!

    @Woolichooks Thank youu~

    @Arteast Thanks! I don't know about being confident, but sure, we gotta push each other to be better. Oh, I'm a freshman at RISD. c:

    @MeteorCat Thanks~ Will do.

    @Erikly Haha, I won't fall into that category if I can help it. Art school's too expensive to just fool around in. Thanks for the advice and for dropping by~

    The portrait in #12 is niceeee

    On your digital paintings, I think it'd be good if you tried starting with some bigger more opaque brushes, and then gradually go smaller as the painting progresses. Try that and see if the result is any different! Also do more things from imagination! haha

    I like the drawings. And yes. Try painting big to small brushes and opaque to transparent.

    Phew it's been a while hasn't it? My first year at art school's over (as well as most of my summer, whoops)
    Time for a big update!
    I did Noah Bradley's Art Camp over the summer and here are some of the works I did for that class. Some imaginative speed painting, some material studies, one of my master studies, and a creature design for a basilisk. More to come soon!

    your stuff is pretty cool! I really enjoy your paintings, your contour gestures are pretty good too! perhaps maybe you should give construction oriented gestures a go I think it's will perhaps help you out with some of your proportions a little more! keep posting!
