The most beautiful thing we can experience is the
mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all
science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who
can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe,
is as good as dead: his eyes are closed.

thanks! i did notice that when i was doing it. LOL My work around to this though is to show how the spell would kind of disintegrate the people in the foreground. Showing how the spell affects enemies when hit. (Good luck to me pulling that off haha ) what do you think? I sure hope i finish. haven't even continued where i last left off. silly work getting in my way hahaha

update. Can't help but feel that I'm going to get bogged down with the details of all these combatants. Flying creatures seem to help the composition but it's feeling pretty cliched, so yay or nay?

hemlock-key - I'm wishing I had a wider view of your scene as it currently isn't showing enough of the figures being blasted. Perhaps expand your canvas to the sides?

Sean McClain - loving your composition but not as much the colours. Has more of an aquatic god vibe about it than spellcaster.

Oaks- the area where his hand is pushing and energy sort of looks like a skull, maybe define that a bit

Sean McLain - really cool piece , sorta makes me think of Zeus

Grimstitch-- Now that you've pointed it out, I'm thinking I'll have to widen that up. I'll see what happens. Thanks.

    Some quick crits:

grimstitch: The dragon doesn't read well. Is that a rider on its back? You need to define the forms so they read more clearly. Especially all the figures who know just look like blobs. and try to make the creatures be affected by the spell more.

raycharlesx: Her torso is poorly defined and blends into the background too much which makes her pose hard to read.

seanMcClain: I'm torn on the geometric angles af the energy, especially the large blast going across his chest seems very stiff. Also the way its wrapping around to strike the person behind while remaining the same size flattens the composition.

oakks: I like the colors but its not clear what the spell actually does. Its effects are not really shown.

    hemlock key:
your composition is very flat. Putting the figures on different planes would add depth to your composition

Here is my update. Trying to decide between a vertical and horizontal layout. I'm not that sure how I feel about the victims of the spell, especially the man on the left running away.

I wish I had found this challenge sooner. I totally would have submitted an entry. I'm tempted to just draw an image anyway even if it can't be in the contest.
