New stuff. Came to a few realizations. I've been dicking around with all this observational drawing shit and I've completely missed the point of it. I "thought" I was analyzing the model, but in reality I was only just copying it. If I'm not making studies of what I am drawing, how can I call it "analyzing?" Isn't analyzing the same thing as making studies, but just said with different words? And then there's this problem I have with my sketches that I don't try to apply my studies. I really need to change all this.

I guess the reason I finally realized this is the drawing of the robot. I realized that I sucked so hard on it because I don't know shit about robots and I've never even considered the relationships of the forms that go into drawing robots. Improving at any stage of proficiency is the same: make the relationships better, learn how to draw the forms in perspective. Knowledge is key, no matter how well I can draw basic forms in perspective I will need to understand what I'm drawing in order to end with a good drawing. Applies to everything.

Hey buddy! nice to see you back on the horse! Anyway I believe somebody gave you good advice before. You've done so many form studies along with perspective yet I've never seen you apply it to your observational drawings so I believe a good transition into the idea would be cross-contour studies. This will help you develop a sense of 3dness in your observational sketches.

@kami: Thanks mate. Yes, cross-contours are good. I try to see where I can apply them in my observational drawings. Anyways, you will see many more drawings from life in the future.

So, this is a lot to go over. I started to read drawing the head and hands, for several reasons that don't matter much anymore. I transitioned when I realized reading Successful Drawing and getting good fundamental drawing skills using that book would be my best bet. And then I transitioned to ball point to try and improve my lines. Now, I'm using a fine-liner to try to improve my lines. On Saturday, I went to this figure drawing event, with a clothed figure that posed for us. Unfortunately, she was clothed, but what can you do.

Circle exercises for warm-up, gotta get used to using ballpoint.
Drawing some stuff around my desk, just more practice.
And just WIP/studies for a character I'm working on.

    Hey! nice progress~!
Changing up medium is always good but a tip! for you! try to visualize your line before you put it to paper!

@JamesSimons: Thanks man. I'll keep trying to visualize my lines(though the first step is to make sure to try that 100% of the time).
@ebi: No prob man. Thanks for liking my sketchbook. I'll make sure to keep it up!

Anyways I'll try to explain all this non-sense here. On Monday I started my rotation of Perspective, Human Anatomy, and drawing from life(full rotation takes 3 days. So every day is devoted to one subject). On the off-side in my gaming creation and gaming graphics class I have been given the role of lead character designer. So all the characters and demon concepts are for that. Critique is welcome on those. Throughout trying to design the demons, I've started to reference animal heads for the design and that seems to have improved them a tad bit. There's two messed up sketches in red pen, those were basically just to relieve stress and weren't entirely serious(I still made an effort though). Lastly, like 2 pages of drawing people from the library. I've gotten used to that haha.

I'd suggest practicing your shading, and plugging more studies in! when you shade things, it seems like the lines are laid out without much thought. Keep the studies goin!

Nice too see some self portraits in here! And I like your lip studies. I should do more small studies like that too (hands, eyes, noses etc.).

This is just a feeling, but... do you think perhaps the eyes might be a little too high in your selfportrait from life?
I could be wrong, but it seems like it.

I think this is where Loomis' method confuses me. He tells you the eyes are sort of in the middle of the face (and in the ball you use for construction), but then he extends the vertical line of the cross in the ball to outside of the ball for the chin (so the eyes are no longer in the middle). :/ Or maybe I'm not reading it right ^_-

In any case, keep it up!

I'm back now. Some of this stuff is a little old. I haven't drawn enough lately but I am getting back into it. I have portraits drawn from reference done for Sickbrush's class on Crimsondaggers(I'm participating on my own volition). Old perspective stuff and more concepts/studies for that game. Did a drawing from life today, hopefully I can keep this up.

There's a huge improvement here! From the beginning you've had a talent at referencing art, it's a great way to learn, keep drawing from your imagination to equal your learning! I've noticed I drew from reference only so much in high school I began to depend on it ! Good stuff though cheers!

Been a while. Here's some new stuff to start up. Will add in some old works soon.
15 2-min hand gestures using some resources I found. Still not quite sure what technique I want to use for the studies, as you can see I was sort of all over the place. And I will probably have to do some that are shorter in length, and I will also have to study more of the anatomy of the hand.

Then sketches from imagination that involve hands so that I can challenge myself with situations where I need to maintain the proportion of the hand to the rest of the body. I should get more creative with this next time.

    @Minella: Thank you I will.
I'm going to start scanning in sketchbook pages that I've done since my hiatus.
This time I did 2-min as well as 1-min hand gestures after.

    Vacuum cleaner from life

sketchbook pages from recent(11x14, so they're a pain to upload since I have to stitch the scans)

I spent too long on this. The lighting in this doesn't make any sense either.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Study portrait for expression, probably 4-5 hours or so
    source:

    - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Figuredrawing from over the weekend. 50min. Rough of a portrait, still fiddling around with the proportions. Practice with fundamentals of light acting upon forms. study of female proportions, and a little doodle.

And a little thing from a few days back. Experimenting with comics for fun
