    POPUPS!!!! make them DIE

My life is complete. I have recieved the worst popup in the history of popup-ing.

    POPUPS!!!! make them DIE

Does anyone know how to get rid of these? Things that are free, preferably, but good nonetheless. Please, God, save me from these terrible popups.

Well, theres 2 ways you can get those.

One is from a website. As far as I know conceptart.org does not have popups.

The other is a piece of adware/spyware that snuck on your computer.

To get rid of that, go to http://www.lavasoftusa.com and download adaware. Run it, and it should clean it out.

Failing that go to http://www.safer-networking.org/ and get Spybot Search and Destroy. Does the same thing as Adaware, only gets some things Adaware doesnt.

If neither of those work, I suggest you dont use IE anymore. I use Mozilla Firefox. http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/

With it I havent seen a popup in years. It has many features I find quite superior to IE's, and it renders html to proper standards.

If you want to stay with IE though, theres a bunch of other popup blockers you can get. I hear the google toolbar from google does a great job of it.

    Hope that helps.

I cannot get rid of this highlighted bar (I've left it its original annoying blue, and darkened the rest for convenient, easy viewing.) on my screen. Ive used Ad-Aware, Norton, and searched the drives for things related to its names...nothing. My dad's computer is cursed...

Right click on the button bar(between button, that is!), in the contextual menu click on the bar you don't want to see anymore. Voila, finish!

i do this, and it leaves. but the first 5 pages i visit it comes back. i keep having to click it to leave. Then EVERY time i boot up IE, it is there, and i have to repeat 5 more times. In addition, every few times it changes the homepage to some spam page, and brings up some other toolbar on the bottom i have to close.

    we hates it.

ugh yeah, i feel for you. i once allowed my dad to use my computer, when he was finished he had installed countless amounts of spyware from those popups that say, "WARNING YOUR COMPUTER SUCKS PRESS OK TO FIX"
anyway, you can always goto start>run>msconfig and take out all the unessiscary programs that bootup with windows. hope that helps

My 2 cents advice: forget IE, surf the net with Opera 7.50 - it's free (ad-ware), it's fast, no unwanted pop-ups! Lots of cool skins and even an RSS Feed Reader included that works very well.

bazooka spyware scanner is good too.....except it doesn't get rid of a damn thing! lol

it will link you to pages with step by step instructions to remove that stuff though, and it's super fast. AdAware takes forever on my comp to scan....bazooka is faster and it catches more stuff.
