Why are people on reddit so mean?

I posted a link to my comic, "Autism Girl," in the subreddit 'webcomics' some time yesterday. Since that time, I've received 5 down votes from people even though I've received nothing but positive feedback in the other places I've posted on. In the title I wrote, "Help support autism awareness by up voting this!" Could that be the reason why? I mean, the whole reason I am pursuing this endeavour is because I myself have suffered with this condition all my life, and because I did not receive adequate support to help me cope with it because there was and still is very little awareness about the condition, I wanted to be the person to try to change that by starting this project. What is it about the general population on reddit (or perhaps just this subreddit, but I doubt it would change if I posted to another one) that makes them so against supporting a cause?

It's the internet. While I respect and wish you all the best for your cause. Nobody is forced to like or
support it. It's their choice. Don't worry about it and don't take it personally. Millions of internet users
around the world have their own motivations behind their opinions, ranging from personal
experiences and tastes, to just having their own private laugh. It's not exclusive to any single
    place.

Also, you probably got downvotes because people didn't like it. Nobody's required to like something, no matter how admirable the cause, and a reddit downvote is hardly "being mean," especially in the larger context of the internet (see above).

Well, I think I can take a guess is that it's because they were expecting a completed work and not just the beginning of something. I guess I was too eager to begin promoting it and start to do so too early on.

And well, honestly the quality of the comic isn't very good. Nor is the layout of the site, I really shouldn't be confused while trying to find where to get the next page in a comic, but in this site clicking the image doesn't work and the page buttons are really small and hidden way too low in the site.

I don't know how to change it. I need someone else to design the site for me, because I don't know the first thing about web design.

You know at some point people didn't know the first thing about drawing.

Just do a bit of research on web design before making that an excuse...cuz you know...see my first sentence?

There are plenty of webcomics that have worse drawings, I don't think the quality of the drawing is the main issue. It's probably the site design, but I need to upgrade to CSS if I want to make it better but that costs money and I don't have money because I can't get employed due to having autism...?

No, I'm pretty sure it's the drawings. The lackluster way the scene is being handled doesn't help either.

I can see this thread is taking a turn for the worse...

Trisquel, I do believe you are more than capable of improving.
Just don't let baseless excuses (like software versions) stop you from
    reaching your full potential.

I'm pretty sure you don't follow too many webcomics.

xkcd, Cyanide and Happiness, Toothpaste for Dinner, and the Perry Bible Fellowship all have popularity that isn't based on the quality of their drawings...

Yes, and what does your comic have in the story? A random girl moaning and whining, and that's about it. It's lots of borderline unreadable text about a character whining about their life, but we, the reader never see anything, it's all just text and random talking heads that I can't even tell apart. And I can understand if you want to avoid the usual way of storytelling (show, don't tell) and be experimental, but do not expect that everyone else will automatically be fond of it.

Not to mention most of the comics you mentioned have art that is fairly deliberately crude, whereas yours looks like you're trying something that you're skills just aren't good enough yet.

Hahaha. Was it really necessary to go on with that bottom part of your post? This just makes you sound like a very embittered person, (which is ironic since you are criticizing a character for being the same way) rather than trying to provide a legitimate critique. I'm sure 99% of webcomic readers don't care whether the art in a webcomic they enjoy is 'deliberately' crude or purposefully that way.

Yes, because you're here thinking that people are disliking your comic in reddit because of the site layout. And I'm not criticizing the character for being bitter, I'm criticizing your way of showing her bitterness. There's a difference.

I'm shutting this down for now. One of the other staff can unlock it should they wish.

Trisquel, nobody has to feel sorry for you. You have access to more advantages
than billions of people around the world right now. I think the posts in this thread
    have said enough.

Should you want more advice on your comic, create a thread in the critique section
so we can help you improve it.

    Thanks.
