Amazing works! All 3 of them, but God is particularly stunning. Do you have a website with more?

Also I have never bought another artist's work in my life, but I am extremely tempted to try to arrange a giant print of the god piece. How fantastic would that look printed on fine art paper? Damn.

Thanks very much everyone, I'm really happy people are enjoying these and taking the time to comment. It means a lot.

MacTire, I didn't use a reference sculpt, but I do see what you mean about the forms being similar to the masks in idea for television program, I hadn't noticed.

Pavel Sokov, I am going to do some test prints to see how they look but I hadn't thought about selling them, hopefully one day.

Hopefully I'll have some more stuff on the way in the next few days. remain vigilant.

Again, thanks for the comments, I'm very thankful that people are actually enjoying this stuff.

Give us your website so we can see more.

Also tell us about how you use reference? Did you have a friend of your stand in that jacket for the god piece, and you imagined that dark lighting on him?

I would suggest you print a giant fine art paper print of the god piece, and frame it in a dark grey metal frame.. Ummfff that is sexy!

Hi Pavel, here's my website but there isn't anything else on it yet, I'll be updating with a new painting in the next couple of days and I'll make a blog soon also. http://www.maxswinton.com

I try to shoot as much of my own reference as possible. For finding god I lit and shot a medical skull model and then lit and shot my step-dad using the same lighting set-up on a larger scale. That gave me the basic elements that I needed. I use a lot of reference, sometimes in quite a literal way and sometimes only as a very loose guide to help me visualize the shape or properties of something. With finding god, the explorer is very close to the reference, with a few alterations, because I knew what I wanted so I created that physically first through costuming and lighting. The skull reference gave me a guide on the overall lighting and helped me understand how light would be falling on the skin, which isn't reffed from anything.

My aim for my paintings is to have them feel like moments from a film, so I want them to look realistic but not necessarily real if that makes sense. They should each have their own contained reality and hint at a more expansive world, but I want them to feel removed from real life, I want them to feel artificial in the way that a film like Alien does, where the world on screen is compelling and convincing but also obviously artificial. I don't know exactly how to explain it, probably I'm just rambling.

OK, more on the way soon.
