    Steffen learns to draw :D

UPDATES AT THE END OF THE THREAD

    Hey guys!

I once was here, making my very first steps in Art. Then, a long time I wrote nothing and since I can't change settings of my old account I'll made up an account which I hope I can use until I retire (lets hope it isn't too soon)

I'm a student from Germany, Hamburg (and currently 24 years old). I pretty much love everything about painting and will try to learn and improve my digital art as much as I can, so I will update this as often as I can. While I'm here I will participate in contests - it's surely a lot of fun and it will show me how far I got with my knowledge about the subjects. I'll probably update this post from time to time, but the newest artworks will be shown at the end of the Thread.

A little rule in here: Be nice to each other. And don't hesitate to ask any questions you might have.

Very nice lines in that first one. And you achieved a painterly feel with the last piece.

    WRappiii: Thanks
twilightmoon777: Well, I don't think I will. I really just scribbled around and having fun more than trying to actually accomplish something specific. Thanks for welcoming me here =)
Big Orange: I will! (I need to laugh first as I read this ^^)

One question I have: I exportet the picture above in 72dpi *.jpg and habve a huge difference how the colors are displayed. How can I avoid this? (for the difference please look at the attachment). Used: CS 5, Mac

EDIT: Worked in RGB-Mode, of cause.

EDIT 2: Sorry for that, but I actually found the solution and an explanation. I used the search for this (of cause) but I just got the solution without finding something with the search before by looking through the threads. Seems to be a common question. For all of you with the same problem: http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=112720

EDIT 3: Got every setting changed how I need it. Here how I actually worked it out. Sorry for spamming you guys with this stuff, but it's very important to me (attached the how-it-should-look-like-image).

Hey guys! I'm nearly through with reading Digital Painting Techniques Pt. I and II. Awesome books which gave my great inspiration and much to learn. I'll post more of anatomy stuff tomorrow, maybe I even get to life drawing.

Some may want to know where I started out. It was over there Link: http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=205525

I've made this one a while ago (using some reference) and never shared it before here. Hope you like my attachment... *little bit scared*

    I'll push it more!

I did some sketches recently. Not much, but there were some things I just wanted to try. Don't hesitate to criticize me, I want to learn from all of you

Quick study I did this morning. And I finally learned how the HSB-Sliders work exactly. But it's quite difficult to get them right, need to practice this. The colorpicking in the colormenue is kind of annoing

And I really need a new scanner, so I can post my daily quick sketches of anatomy, too. Any good suggestions for a cheap but good scanner? Canon or Epson were pretty good (I read) but is there a specific scanner which you would suggest?

Thanks for your comments, telohs and bobtail! I really appreciate it.

Really nice sketches, Steffen. I'm looking forward to more.

I've had the export issue as well. Saving for web and devices seems to work though.

    Talking

Thanks zeichenwut! Yeah, that really bugged me very much as I noticed the difference...

So, a bunch of new things. Some abstract thing I made in about 40 minutes while I was not at home (so obviously I had no tablet and a bit time to kill ). Just to test some brushes. I know, it's kind of stupid if you don't have pressure sensitivity, but nevertheless it was fun. Done with the trackpad on the Mac.

Another knight study! Focused a bit on the metal. And then two heads / portraits. The first one is a self portrait (ok, more or less ^^)done with about 50 colored strokes. I wanted to focus on painting huge masses instead of scribbling around. And the other one is a quick study with another technique. This one is about 10 or 15 minutes.

I hope this weeks CHOW is cool, then I can finally join and do some finished stuff I'M SO EXCITED!

My Idea for this weeks CHoW! I think spaceships are mostly looked at when you stand under (and beside) them. Those are big things and even the small fighter-jets have to be big. So I wanted to show it from a low-angle. You can see the wheel and when you open the cover of the wheel the pinup spreads the legs (because they are painted on the 2 cover-parts). To give the scene a bit more contrast I'd show the happy pinup-girl and some blood dripping from the cockpit. Maybe there was an accident or something really bad happened...

Here a quick sketch... is something like that ok or is there too much environment? This is my very first participation there, so I really don't know... ^^'

Studies are looking good, but I'd like to see some sketchbook pages up here as well as you work on anatomy and things like that. I reckon a little perspective study would be nice to see here as well - check out Loomis' books, I think it was Successful Figure drawing or something along those lines - lots of good stuff about perspective laws and figure placement there.

Soldier on, though - I like what you've got going!

    Thanks Gpozzo!

Something like this is going to be the new cover for the AAS-Competition for The Dark Eye, a german role playing game. Since I drew the first one in 2007 I was pretty embarrassed by the look of that old thing Going to make the 'Simiapokal'-Cover, too. No references, PS CS 5, Wacom Intuos, Blah

    @Psychobuddy: Thanks man!

Aaaand a chalice for another competition. They asked me to do that for the second cover. Well... I'm not quite sure about the picture and whether it is finished or not, but nevertheless: I want to show it, haha! The symbol and the handle represent the astrological sign of the god the chalice is meant for.

And some new work. Started out as a study (at least about 10 minutes) and then I just... well... I gone wild on this
Mashing up things and stuff. Worked on 1 Layer, about 150 minutes with trying new stuff here and there.

I need your opinion. I worked out some sheets of different groups for a private project, together with a fitting color sheme. Those are very rough, I know, because of the design they should be as different / cool as possible. Let me know which one of the 4 in each of the 6 groups you like most. =)

I have favourites, too, but I won't spill what I think before you had a chance to see them =) Thanks in advance!

    1st group: Mysterious ones, wanderers
    2nd group: High-born, honorable
3rd group: Savage clans in the wilds
    4th group: Workers, Guards
5th group: Peaceful and silent priests
    6th group: Kind-of mad Scientists

Everything set in a fictive world at about 1850.
    (copied pose, clothes from imagination)
