    Troll House Background

This layout was done for my second year studying animation, but it was only a couple of months ago that I decided to colour it up in Photoshop CS5 for laughs. It was done on the theme of a troll's house (believe it or not) and I was trying to convey a scrappy look to the place while also suggesting a solitude mood to the character.

It’s more or less considered to be one of the strongest pieces in my art and design portfolio so far, but I decided to post it up here and see what you all think of it and see what kind of feedback and critique I can get on it. Thanks in advance.

This feels a bit odd to me, honestly. Does the pipe serve as a storypoint? It's rather prominent. Also, is this an establishing shot? Where do you intend for the characters to be placed?

not a bad image but nothing about it says trollhouse.
the thumbanil looked like a suspension bridge cable which i thought might be a neat update on the trolls living under the bridge trope.

Well, yes. The image is made as an establishing shot type of image. I felt that the chain and pipe served as an interesting framing device around the house, and it is wierd to have them placed there but that does serve as a storypoint in a way since this is a very alien environment to our own. Or so that was my intention anyway.
