    ChOW#291 :: Intergalactic Burlesque Queen

    Character of the Week #291
    Intergalactic Burlesque Queen

    Design the new Intergalactic Queen of Burlesque!!

    DEADLINE: SUNDAY 10th June 8PM GMT+1 (9PM British Summer Time)
    Check your timezone!

    This week we would like you design a burlesque dancer of intergalactic fame! - there is one twist: they can't be human! So whether it be tantalising tentacles, seductive scales, or a forth eye you just can't take your....eyes off... it's entirely up to you.

    The Guidelines:
    • Can be any gender
    • Cannot be human (But can be humanoid)
    • Think about iconic burlesque visuals, like fans and tassels.

    THE RULES
    In addition to the brief, if you do not follow these rules, you will not be included in the poll.
    • Files must be named: CHoW#290_Username
(Files with any other names such as final.jpg or even chow290final.jpg will not be accepted)
    • Finals must be posted in the finals thread BEFORE the deadline
    • Final post must include the CHoW number and the artists username at the bottom of the image
    • At least 3/4 of the focus character must be visible
    • Final images must be accompanied with a basic character sheet in a separate image
 Character sheets should at the very least show a sketch of the front and back of the character and a couple of early thumbnails/silhouettes.
    • Follow the brief!

    Woooo!!!!! I didn't get to finish last weeks, I only got about half way done with it because of work and my temporary addiction to D3 I think I'm over it now. Great topic, can't wait to get started!

    I've been sketching ideas for the last day, have to say trying to avoid obvious ideas and creating something alien whilst at the same time sexually appealing is proving to be quite a challenge

    EDIT: This is what I have so far:

    ChOW#291 :: Intergalactic Burlesque Queen

    I figured not all space faring races will neccesarily breathe oxygen and I think it would be bad business if there wasn't a water queen to please them

    She's mostly based off octopuses, some various other water life ideas will probably show up in the dress; although I'm still a bit iffy about using lace designs in water, seems it may be a hinderance. Also with holograms would be pretty useful for decoration since they wouldn't really have any weight or tension in water

    Really going to try to push my self on this one, making sure the sketch is as good as I can get it first, pose, proportions, etc. I redrew the head like 10 times before I FIIIINALLY got what I wanted. Going to move into digital now. I wanted to stick to mostly humanoid but when I get into actually painting it, there will be a clear difference in species from human. This is just the skeleton of the whole thing.

    I was going to add Mr. Venus the Fly-trap, but decided against it. A giant critter eating a bug-eyed creepy creature is too distracting.

    Still all sketchy.

    I always though feathers and burlesque went together nicely...that and poisonous tail prongs to keep inappropriate hands in check.

    First time doing this for me. Mine is a grasshopper of some sort, still working it all out in my head, but this is her basic design.

    Looking good guys

    Jsn
    I have to ask but is yours going to be an android of somekind? Just right now there's nothing suggesting she's anything other than human

    PhillipO
    Nice to see something very alien on here She looks more intimidating than she does sensual however, it's really just the pose.

    Nevreme
    Nice pose you've got going right now, her clothes seem very suited to the brief but her face whilst inhuman seems less sultry and regal. Maybe a headdress or some sort of decoration could highlight her 'horns' whilst accentuating them for effect.

    Havok Reed
    I'm looking forward to how you turn this into something more alien I was a bit worried when I saw it as it's just a succubus base but if you're going to update it and alter it then it should be interesting also I really hate to say it but her legs are too small for her body, I can understand how bending them may have made it a bit harder to read, I think if you enlarged the head and legs you could keep the 6 1/2 heads tall dynamic and make it a bit more in proportion, it's really just her head size that's thrown you off I think. Easily asjustable though

    Ephelea
    Sorry about getting the water theme first I'm kinda glad I posted something now just so I called dibs hehe. It would've been cool to see your take on it though, direct competition and inspiration might've helped us both. that said your peacock inspired girl also looks very cool. Again like Nevreme though the top part of her body seems a bit sparse. A peacock inspired headdress would fit perfectly and definitely get that regal look going. I'm particularly looking forward to how yours turns out.

    Mjz
    I must admit I was a little disappointed with your latest update, your first post made me assume you were going for something weird and wonderful, many of the entries have a very human look about them and I was looking forward to seeing something truly alien and unique, instead it seems to be an anthropomorphised pig. Whilst not too human, still feels like something of a missed oppurtunity. Also, her stage definitely needs to be bigger for someone of her 'stature'

    Kiwigarbage
    not really sure what to say about this one It's nice to see someone take on the more 'regal' look as well, Could definitely use some tightening up though, and whilst the tail idea is cool it feels like it break the flow of the image, I can read the 'S' shape going through her frame but her tail breaks right through it and seems more of a distraction than an object that helps the composition.

    this image just felt like it may be a good example.
    ChOW#291 :: Intergalactic Burlesque Queen

    DKHutcheson
    Insects definitely have that 'alien' vibe to them so it's cool to see someone take this on I'm say reference a mantis a bit more perhaps as these have the undertones of a seductive and dangerous creature which might add a bit of kick to your image. If you also add some interesting features to her legs and have a pose that really accentuates them it would add even more punch to your design

    hope I helped anyway guys, just as a general note it feels as though many are gripping too hard to the concept of a human archetype. I can certainly understand that as the idea of burlesque is to be sultry and seductive. A less human body would no doubt make that more difficult, but the point of the topic is to try stretching your boundaries a bit ore so don't be afraid to loosen up a bit.

    Also keep in mind the brief is for a queen. So more regal designs would really help, something beyond just a burlesque girl, someone who takes over the stage and grips their audience with just a look. Let's give them something that really makes them worthy of being called The Burlesque Queen

    @Tchuk, Thanks. the legs are definitely too small. I think the reason they are is because I ran out of room on the paper xD so I thought I could scrunch it all in there. I wasnt expecting to sketch it on the paper where I did. I was just doing thumbnails and I liked where I was going with it and kinda just kept on going. Though I think if i just fix up the legs the head will be fine. at first is was too small, then too big, I think i found the happy medium for it, but we'll see

    And yea, she does have the qualities of a succubus at the moment. I will be throwing up several versions of where I may take this. I promise it wont be a human!

    mjz92: While it has its charms to see the little pigs standing there drinking champaigne, I do think you're making it more difficult for yourself then you have to.
    This is a character design concept, yet you chose to throw in perspective, lighting, scenery and additional characters. It's your call obviously, but I'd suggest focusing on character design here, advancing one skill at a time.
