dash, what a nice surprise. One of the meat haus crew, eh?. That's some hip shit. I'm in love with james jean. But I'm not alone there.

I like the patterns and colors of the first one. I dont know if you'll get much response concerning story on this board. But then I could be wrong.

this is definitely different from the work I usually see here. I also really like the combination of surface pattern and ink lines.

the Dash Shaw... could there be any other? not to drop into raging fanboy mode immediately, but i've followed your work for about a year now. meathaus overall has some very good stuff, i'm a big fan of farel's work... but to be honest i was most impressed with gardenhead. i actually came across your site when i was googling for that sequent media graphic novel contest (congrats, btw) and was impressed by what i saw.

everyone, mr. shaw may be too modest to directly plug his own good work, so i'll save him the effort: http://www.meathaus.com/warehaus/whcomics.html
on the lower part of the page on the left hand column you'll find his 'gardenhead' graphic novel which can be had for a mere $3.50. that's more than worth the price of admission for a deeply thoughtful and clever little story.
and if memory serves, meathaus doesn't charge shipping so be sure to load up on these great indepedent comics.

specific to what you've posted here: like a friend of mine said when he saw the love eats brains cover, you can handle pastels/unusual color schemes with considerable aplomb. and i've always been a fan of your seemingly casual yet evocative inkwork. hope you stick around ca.org

I don't post here often, but I thought that this is really amazing stuff and warranted some kind of kudos.

Thanks Dash for posting, and thanks gauss for showing me towards Meathaus.

    very odd and great work.

I dont like some of it(live w/ passion), but I think a lot of it is great. Is the one with the little girl swinging done with ink or comp?

    Post more!

toad, i'm sorry that my post made you mad or confused.
ink, it was a long battle to settle for those "live with passion!" covers. each side of the book is a character's sketchbook (and the two characters do drawings of each other) and i wanted the cover to be the character's face. and i wanted it to be interesting and different looking and stand out on the shelves. i must have gotten six different covers rejected by the editor. here's an odder pair from the rejects:

    and

and the tumbling girls are just ink brush drawings. everything's an ink drawing. coloring is either with guache on acetate (like an animation cell), collage on the back side of an acetate sheet, or photoshop paintbucket stuff. (i don't know much computer things). here's some other pics:
