    ROUND #259 - Firebug

    topic:

    ROUND#259: Firebug

The world of insects is vast and diverse. Insects have evolved in a myriad of terrifying and/or beautiful ways. Even the mere evolution insects use to murder one another, as well as prey like us, is a wonder to behold. So here we are brought to the firebug. Either through evolution, magic or genetic manipulation of some kind, a bug has been discovered which is capable of producing chemicals which allow it to spray bouts of flame. Your job will be to design a bug of some kind (you are not limited just to insects), which is capable of producing such a flame.

    Requirements this week:
    - The creature must be visually identifiable as a “bug”

    - The creature must be able to use it’s own body to produce a bout of flame

    - This ability to shoot fire should be illustrated in your drawing

    Deadline:

    May 23rd 7:00pm PST (GMT -8 )

You will notice that the due date is now at 7pm PST (GMT -8 ). This is a change we will be making relatively permanently. I understand this gives you 2 fewer hours this week to get your creatures done. I'll be fairly lenient about getting your entries in on time this week only.

Initial concept for firebug. Idea is that huge back part of the bug holds the "fuel" while quick rubbing together of the mouthparts creates small ammount of electricity. When the bug is ready to Flambéy, it simply drops down it's massive hindquarters. Mass and gravity sprays the chemical cocktail out, while the electricity created with mouthparts ignites it.

bit unsure on this one, slug-like or hard-shelled, can't decide. might make him spew fire or have him pre-spew. either way a smaller bug's gona get it.

garkudion- lovin the prayin mantis styley!

Thought I would like to participate in this....as I have a Japanese grasshopper, which my father came home with one day from work (the hopper came as a stowaway with a delivery of forklift trucks).

So looking at him, I thought it would be cool if you could have something that jumps when distressed releasing bouts of flame whilst airborn...

Here's some quick studies of my hopper and a colour scheme...going to play with design tomorrow...

    Nice topic!

New here, hope I'm doing it right~
Will probably change it for the final submission, and yes, I know I need to show it spewing fire at some point.

Cool entries so far everyone. I particularly like Ville's and Jon's. Ville's for its design and 'mechanic', and Jon's for pure character

Still got to add finishing touches to the final piece, but more or less done.

Interesting . I've never drawn bugs before and I won't be able to finish this because I'm just too busy at the moment, but I managed to whip up a sketch of what sprung to my mind when I read the subject. Good luck to everyone, there's a couple of really good-looking designs in here already!

Some really nice works in these round

Here's my bug, in theory he is able to create around hes back something like a fire shield protecting him against predators. But i'm still thinking about adding simple fire splitting mechanism from he's mouth instead

Plenty of arthropods in the sea, not sure how or why it would shoot fire yet though...

lovin these bugs peoples. inspired by some of the big cows i've seen on these forums i've decided to make my bug a biggun. he's got volcano type growths along his spine raining fiery nastyness wherever he goes. gona make the main light source his fiery mouth. this should be fun, fire's a bit of a challenge for me, haven't really tackled it a lot before.

    Think I'm done...Ok...

These bugs are grasshopper like creatures, that use fire as a defense mechanism. When threatened or startled they will jump releasing flames as to distract or burn the threat that is beneath them whilst airborn...

    ...That was my idea anyhow...

All the best guys, it was fun!
