today a quick mech, a portrait i spent waaay too much time on compared to its level of finish, tried blocking everything in from the start instead of setting up lines for proportions, failed misserably and as a result spent 1-2 hours fixing proportions while working on it. Bah!
Also 1hdc for tonight, pumpkins through the ages, went for a halloween theme heh.

Your portrait construction could use a bit of work, try to churn out a whole heap of portraits with just line work, I guarantee you will be happier with the result when you come back to work from photos or life.

I definetly agree with ryanryan(user above me) you could use some more practice with constructing the head, try to copy some loomis or bridgman diagrames about the planes of the face.

GrayPersona, RyanRyan: Yeah I definitely need that, I am having a really hard time understanding the structure. Read your message earlier and decided to look at some Bridgman! His facial structure seems very simplified, but maybe thats what I need.
Ill try to do facial construction daily and see what happens, thanks for the critique guys!

Wow, nice updates! I really like the mech rendering and your skintones!

I like the value range in the "forest house" painting. It's a little too saturated for my taste, though.
The depth in this painting is also hard to read from afar. Try to overlay a black "Saturation" layer to see the values and then separate for- middle- and background a little (atmospheric fog).

Keep up the hard work man, you're kicking my ass!

Thanks ecki! Yeah the saturation is a problem for me - Really need to get some life studies going, maybe it will fix some of my saturation madness.
So here's a slight overdue update.

More fun, and putting that NSFW tag to use! Woke up last night and had this weird idea for a creature, nowhere as scary as I wanted it to be. Must practice scary! (lighting/colours, nothing says scary about it except its silhouette : / )
Also, it looks a little too flat, will have to work more on this guy next week.

Hasn't been a year yet since your first post in the sketchbook and already you have improved greatly. I love your Imaginative stuff, keep at the studies they are helping you so much. I cant wait till you show us exactly how great your imagination is, once those studies and practices kick in, I see interesting things.

    Thanks Stryno!

Ive been drawing and painting (or trying at least) for 3 years now, although way more seriously since I joined ca.org, and there is still SO much to learn!

Since my last post Ive been working on an environment, my dragon aaand this weeks chow! Battle butcher silhouettes, although I just checked the rules, the butcher has to be a male character, dang!
    Will have to rework those.

Should also add that the environment study below has taught me that I need to do WAY more value studies
