Or you know, the artist screwed up with the Marquee tool. Personally I'd done it with vector Shapes but anyway my point is there's this element called "human error", especially with programs that you're not familiar with or aren't made for this sort of thing. If the second shapes accidentally moves you you freehand the placement, it can (and will) be off centered, which can cause a line like that to vary.

ok...let me see if i can explain it better...the inner border out to the twisted mid border match...the inner ring not quite because it is thicker on one side in the art...making me think it was dropped on in photoshop off centered as well...but the tin type stock image was cropped imperfectly and the artwork as well exactly the same...i actually do know brushes...i know its possible to achieve something similar with brushes...in fact i could make a brush using the outside corners of the stock as well...and thats cool...but the placement...are flawed the same in both...

It sounds like you still think you're right. It is time to produce visual proof. Show us HOW you are right. If you can't, it would be better to just let this drop. You are opening yourself up to a large libel suit otherwise. This was a contest with personal gain involved. If she doesn't ultimately win she could concivable sue you, saying that your action unduly influenced the judging process and cost her the win.

    You're not answering the question.

You said in your very first statement the overlays match. You keep talking about it being off centered. You know about photoshop but you still can't produce the damn overlay.

    Do it or stfu.

EDIT: I mean you could have noted the Stock artist privately about this and if she felt like her work was used, the she could have pursued the matter further. There's no need for you to police the internet.

Dude, you're coming off as a bit obsessed over this random person's image and a couple of pixels in that image that may or may not be referenced from another image. Think of all the time you've spent on this that could have been spent improving your own work. Even if you prove this person to have used a stock image, your work is still where it is and needs improvement. Smearing her will not make you a better artist.

Yes. Those borders are not the same. They don't "match up perfectly." The details of the designs are totally different.

i am just upset with her response on how it was done...
showing how the stock and art are both off centered...shifted the same amount in the same direction...im not talking about the outside ornaments...just the inside border relative to the placement

You might be able to make the case that she used it as a ref, but she completely made it her own. If she did even use this. Personally, I think that someone who was going to steal/cheat would pick a Much better source to do so from. Something that didn't have to be completely repainted.

All you've shown with that image is how much they don't match up. You're pathetic. Let it go.

Just FYI, I did get a response from the person he was making the accusation against.

I'm getting permission to re-post it because I'm feeling really sorry for her the OP doesn't know what stress you're putting that person through over something you couldn't even prove.

She is happy to see the support on this site.

Dude...you've been slammed pretty hard here (and rightly so), and yet I'm impressed you've kept a pretty even tone - that's good. That said, you owe her a major apology. Her response to you was incredibly gracious to the point of offering you feedback on your own work when you badgered her about her process...that was beyond patient.

Get over this fair play, you broke the rules bs...unless you like the butthurt throughout life.

Okay, can I ask, if you actually managed to notice something like that, would it really have killed you to present this either earlier or spoken about this with the artist, privately? All your talk about thus far has been about "I believe/think" and "it's off-center", "it matches perfectly" (when people can't get it match) and "she's lying" both in here and to the artist as opposed to say "hey, I noticed you have this exact same texture, can you explain this?". All of this thread could have been avoided.
    And again,

Okay, now you have finally presented a case. The texture does match in a number of places.

I still believe that it is so significantly altered that the point is moot. It amounts to using it just as a texture (which I don't really like) and is considered industry standard. Really the worst you can accuse her of is being confusing in her description of her process.

This is why you should never do ANYTHING questionable in your art. Somebody has the time to track it down and make you pay for it in embarrasment and mud.
They will look for it too... 'Have time will slander'

I agree with what JeffX99 said here. At least you have comparted yourself pretty evenly, but its time to let this one go. Move on join in the community for the betterment of your own work. Don't worry about what someone else is doing.

No hey, that's cool. As I said, the fact that even though a bit obsessed over a minor technicality, you've been relatively humble about the whole thing.

With this latest comparison you've posted, hard to say they didn't use that frame and manipulate it to some extent (obviously). But two things to keep in mind, maybe three:
The intent of the "no stock" rule is likely to mean don't just use someone else's photo with some minor tweaking as your main subject (just guessing on the intent of the rule).
The "body" of the image has nothing to do with that frame...another frame would work just as well...that kind of thing can make the problem moot.
You may in fact be "technically" right about something...but it often just doesn't matter in the long run.

Best thing about all this...it seems you've learned a great deal so that is all good.

Edit: Ha - Shorinji beat me to it!

    What would Caravaggio do?

That's it? After all this drama, all you have to show is a few spots of matching texture in an inconsequential piece of the picture? Your assignment: learn perspective.

among other things...matching texture in matching places in the same spot in the composition...led me to believe 3rd party stock was used...the entire piece is up for judging...not fair for the others that poured themselves into this assignment who followed the rules...the only stock images we could use were supplied in an 'asset pack' thats it...
i am in need of some perspective...i should be able to make some progress...thank you
