    Values

Breaking stuff down, saw some of shaddy safadis videos tried to incorporate a bit of his approach for simplifying stuff. Anyway these are some of the first, in a some weeks of pure value training. Trying to work smart instead of hard, and learn one thing at once, and then combine, instead of trying to learn everything at once. So right now its values, might do some cubes or "simple" stuff like that.

I found a gigantic weakness, im so shitty at painting foliage, or any type of foresty stuff, might be because i havent done a lot of it, but maybe i have been avoiding it, because i suck at it, so its sort of a bad circle. ANYWAY, it feels good ill just have to paint more forest stuff, and plants in general.

Right now im doing a thing i set up for myself called "Value month" so its all about value studies, and understanding values, if anyone who reads this or looks at my shit has any suggestions for stuff i should study, please by all means just leave a comment, and ill get to it!

Anyway! back to doing more landscape studies, and maybe even some personal stuff, i have been necglecting that these past few days, i love you all.

    Stay frosty.

Trying to simplify my stuff more in the beginning, so i understand what i am looking at.
then afterwards add a little texture, and explain stuff a bit more. Its still crude, and my studies still suck, but it feels so good to do these everyday, now i just need to apply all this stuff in personal pieces, so starting out with a study as warmup, and then doing a piece in maybe sort of the same "environment".

    more

Thanks a lot Smileface, i really dig your stuff!!

some more, super crude, simple, and shitty, but this race is endurance, and im not gonna give up.

the funny thing about the simple one, is that beyond this point of shapes, its just details, the picture is already there in terms of the human eye filling out the details. sometimes i feel the same about Craig mullins sketches, the whole picture and atmosphere is already there from the start, even if he just spends 20 minutes or less on it, because he just paints whats most essential to communicate the scene. I read a quote today, it was something about simplicity and it goes like this "It's easy to paint a thousand points of light with a thousand brushstrokes. It's much more difficult - and infinitely more eloquent - to paint a thousand points of light with only one hundred strokes." that is how i want to paint, eloquently.
Im also having a hard time translating the texture without getting muddy values, maybe i should paint without pressure sensitivity.

I think its time to challenge myself a bit more with these studies though, should go for something more hardsurface, to get a sense of how value interacts there, and how the light bounces back and forth.

Again, if anyone has an idea to what i should do for Value month, which i have a bout 26 days left of, please drop a post, it would be SUPER cool! otherwise im just going to selfanalyze and figure out what i need.

    tres cabezas

hücumkedi: Thanks a lot man, your stuff is fucking incredible! The reason that i dont post any color stuff is because im doing something for myself called value month, so that i can get better value control, and general painting/shape control so its good that you say its those two things i have a nice feeling for, because its those two things i have been practicing these past 1-2 weeks! color will come later, for now im just doing basic shit!
kevin_: same goes for you! you guys are cool!
    be water, friend(s)

Listening to this a lot! perfect mix.

rushed the last one a bit, on to personal stuff, and maybe a study later, who knows.

Reflections on these(so i can remember what i am actually trying to learn ): i think i have a habit of being too afraid to go light value wise. I found that on all three, maybe for the exception of number one, my values were one notch too dark, so if it was a "6" i had painted a "7" and etc. I think i got the values nearly right on the first one, because i spend more time analyzing the values, which is what it is all about afterall. I also learned that values in sorollas painting gradiate a lot, and for the most part, there arent super crazy value extremes, this ofcourse has something to do with the subject, which is the face, and probably not sorolla himself. so next study i do, i should spend more time thinking about values, maybe a bit less on shape, but thats still super important. i would like to try and take a study and make it more mine though, or maybe use the opportunity to experiment with some different brush techniques, maybe some hardedge or textural or even the smudge tool

    really nice work...
specially the environments at the first page,
although m also a learner bt still i can say this that as you r very young,
u should work more on traditional drawing and painting, dats the best way of learning art...
you have got a whole life to do software...
bt it just what i felt, everyone has their own approach...

wip :> oh and i forgot, thanks guys

@Lionheart_gfx: Yeah man, no ref, but its super simple though, stuff like that wont be hard to do once you do a study or two of a similar landscape.

Why do jpegs get darker? is it the compressed information???

remixing the piece from before into something "new" really should experiment alot more with this, and try to see if i can do different variations of enviros fast, but maintaining the same overall universe.
