    sketches

some sketches from today.. just started in high school again after a long summer vacation, so i have been busy these past days. I really need to adapt/work it out, a lot of time i took for granted suddenly disappeared into high school, and homework, and also just being tired when you come home means a lot! but yeah, excuses excuses, studies will be coming through the weekend ).

Quick Edit: woaah page 2 already!

    1min

quick 1 min pose studies, these are pretty fun, and a good way to practise getting down quick dynamic poses. i noticed that all the characters i do myself are so stiff and barely have any gesture, so hopefully i can turn that around by doing these often.

also the first time ive done any type of "life" drawing digitally, cant wait to see what i can do with photoshop lifedrawing wise.

    arctic stuff?

<Gpozzo, thanks man! glad someone is taking time to look at my shit hehe.

quick painting (top), and a quick study (bottom). trying out some brushes and other stuff, really want to work more with colour gradients and insane stuff in the sky, like blood red skies but making it harmonize so it doesnt look too saturated or like rainbow puke on the canvas, if that makes any sense.

So now that CA is back up, i can post some of the stuff i have been doing in the meanwhile. My computers HDD recently broke down, and the shitty thing isnt the work or ref or books i had on it, but more that i cant paint digitally for the time being, however, i can use tablets at my school and etc, so its not that bad. I have been focusing more on my draftmanship though, thought i might as well until my comp gets fixed. so without further ado here are some drawings and stuff. (ps my very first selfportrait is in this post, crazy huh?)

Anyways, forwards, onwards, backwards - gonna paint some stuff.

Had a weird moment yesterday, i was staring at the screen, filled with frustration, it was as if everything i tried to paint, just came out wrong, i constantly doubted myself, questioning my every stroke. I was so sad and angry, and i doubted if i could even get to the level i wanted to be at. I thought a lot about it, but ultimately just let it be. so today when i was going to paint, i was anxious that the same thing would happen again, but i just went with the flow, trying not to focus too much on right or wrong. instead i focused on having fun with the image, and this is what came out of it . its super sketchy, but yeah anyway, ill be back with more later!

selfportrait, second ive ever done, and first time ive ever tried doing a study without ref, but just using a mirror. it was super fun, and full of deep concentration, i really like how i couldnt do any guilty colour picks, even if i wanted to, so in a way i was just forced to do it right, no cheating.

and a tiny update on that previous enviro, will leave it be as it is now.

I love seeing how much you bounce around with subjects and materials. Your water reflectivity, and rock rendering is getting really good and when I see a now and then robot it's a pretty solid design. Great work! Love your SB. ♥

sort of sketch, used too much time on it, and it took A LOT of shapes before ending like this, originally i wanted to do something bioshock-esque, and have some sort of water thing going on around the light/staircase thing, and then have boats or people going around it, might try to go for that again. i think im better off trying to focus on getting perspective into my workflow small update on the dune thing, its super tiny things but yeah

Also getting started on digital plein airs, i think those will help me a lot with time to become a great environment artist. anyway over and out

    digi lifedrawing

Here is a lot of digital lifedrawing and two long studies, i have a shitload of traditional lifedrawing that i need to scan at some point.

Meanwhile, im having such a great time with digital lifedrawing, i havent done it prior to these, and the two studies, so in that regard it feels fresh and new, even though i do most of my pieces digitally if not all of them!

But yeah anyway, i hope i can really get familiar with the whole digital lifedrawing process, and unify the medias so to speak. I would love to do some pleinairs too, will have to see if i can do a setup for that, oh and the good thing about the quick poses from lifedrawing, was that it actually forced me to bind brushes for a better workflow with less fumbling, im really glad i figured out how to use actions in photoshop, in combination with the buttons on the tablet

I absolutely love your colours! They work exceptionally well with your painting style.

How do you pick your colours?

Thank you so much Gorbax! its actually a mix between a lot of different things, all depending on how i started out the piece.

Sometimes i work in value or simple graphical composition, then i use a lot of photos and stuff, to get colour in there, or some interesting shapes, mostly i lasso tool the pics warp them around, use the colours i like, and paint over.

Other times its basically just the good old ordinary way of starting out with what you know works.

so yeah, sorry for such a bad answer! an advice though, for this is something im trying to learn myself, is to get really good at value control. If you have the right values, you can slap ANY colour on there, and it will look good, i mean obviously some colours will convey a fitting mood more than other colours. I hope you can use any of this, im still learning, and im still at the very tip of the iceberg hehe!

    some more stuff

45 min study from life (i had the most shitty angle ever, wish i could have gotten 3/4th but it was sweet practise anyway) did it in colours, but yeah i think its shit, to say the least. But yeah, ill have to practise getting down quick expressive colour palettes, but values first! no doubt about that

sketch i started in school time, thank god for laptops and tablets hehe. also, i bought a ticket for the CA workshop in london, going to be phenomenal (or in other words fucking awesome) other than that i have a multitude of artists i want to do studies of, P.S Kr°yer, Sorolla, Anders Zorn etc etc, mostly impressionists, i really love the atmosphere they bring in their paintings, and the way they depict light, but anyway, less talk more rock
