Hi all, I'm Rob, mostly lurking here these past few months but have a thread in the sketchbooks forum with some of my comic character and "Speedpaint Saturday" art. I'm a writer and concept artist living in Melbourne, although I'm sort of relearning the art side these past few years, having been mental for it as a kid and losing the passion for a solid 10 years from 17ish to 27ish. Anyway, hope you enjoy this "panel" of a webcomic I'm working on where every panel is kind of a full page spread that should, in my eyes, be something worthy of standing alone as art in itself. It's kind of a challenge and maybe overreaching but a way to keep myself interested. Anyway, this fat bastard is named Edit, he's about to call in sick to work because he basically cbf.
I originally painted this out in CS5, then had my wife take some photos of me in a similar pose and painted in bits of the ear, hairline, eyes, hand, shirt texture. I originally wanted something kind of like Dave McKean or Ash Wood, with layered photorealism on top of paint, but it failed pretty damn hard, so I ended up painting out most of it and trying to disguise it with blur. So, with expectations firmly lowered, here goes. Cheers.
