    Cericke's Sketchbook

    Hey all!

I'm an Illustration student at RIT, working on my skills so I can get into some sort of concept art career.

Right now I'm trying to focus on better learning the human figure, as I didn't get as much out of foundation figure drawing as I really needed, though I'm aiming to get better at digital painting while doing so.

For now all I have is a figure painting I did tonight of JB-Fotodesign's Walking
I'm studying abroad in Croatia and all of my sketchbooks can't be put into the internet.

Side note: for the sketchbook/basic practice, if I worked while looking at a photo, should I cite it- or does it not really matter?

    Demon-Headed Chick

Another figure painting, though I nixed the face and added a demon head.
Probably should start pure demon and keep that way, but this was fun practice.

I don't think it really matters provided you don't claim it to be yours or use it for any purpose different than studying, personal stuff. But it would be helpful to know when you used references or not because you know that looking at pictures while drawing makes the whole thing easier. For instance, my goal is to be able to draw the figure properly without using pictures, did you use reference for these sketches??

Yeah, I actually listed my reference for each in the comments above.

My goal is to be able to draw/paint the human figure without mundane reference as well, but I know I haven't spent enough time studying to confidently do so.

You're right Cerickle. I always try to sketch from imagination and I sometimes become frustrated because of my not being able to do it accurately. I forget that it takes years to master something without references!! I should do the same.

    Update 10-3-12

Been a long time. Here's what I've been up to. I should probably work more on speed paintings and thumbnails, instead of just finished pieces and anatomical studies.

Gotta get back on the horse. Again. Man I'm bad at consistency. Anyway, this guy was for the future rodeo rider challenge, but I failed to take the time zone into consideration. Things to practice in the future: boots & hats for sure.
