Now, that is what i call a masive improvement Grumbleputty, the design is looking great and way more appealing than the first one. You have nice reflections in the sphere like shapes, try to use the same range of highlights and dark values for all the other parts of the same material too. The Aoife design is looking great too.
About the cast shadow, is always very helpfull to make them darker and sharper where the object is near the ground, and lighter and blurred as they are farther away.
Here's an update. Still haven't worked out the girl very much, but I'm getting there.
hand some time after work to paint in the robot and messed around with different background ideas.
going for an old garage feel, as if she found the robot in a long forgottened box.
might change it up so it's more of mad-scientist lab and change the girl to look more michevous.
I'll have Saturday free so will work more on getting the perspective, lighting, and shadows too look more accurate.
lotta cool entries, I like the various robots other people have posted.
mccreation - cool abstract take on the robot.
bnock - fukkin awesome dude.
ded - awesome man, like the colors and the BG.
Firth - cool chick and I also thought of doing a robot on a unicycle too.
daniorr - that's fukkin awesome too.
GEB - that's getting pretty epic.
Melyse - i like the inscet robot.
kingkostas - that's so effin rad.
bobtail - nice start on the girl, altho where's the robot?
intothevoid - interesting idea. might want to make it more 'exciting' the piece seems flat.
derekdedgell - cool robot sillhouette.
ironbyte - good start. i should have been more thoughtful of the BG before committing to a concept.
hideyoshi -what can i say man that's effin beast!
Martin C - that's sick man, could be on a Magic card.
stinkfist - Cute. Though not sure about the robot having a red eye. it's like in attack mode.
TrollJack - Nice start on the girl, but I'd spend more time concepting out the robot too before going too far with the girl.
Liffey - Awesome start.
Tamirespp - Interesting take on the robot. It's like a seahorse in armor. The girl looks a bit too old for a kid. Maybe a smaller dress and younger features?
Grumbleputty - that's sick man!
my goodness so many people on Page 7 alone.

I disagree (with the evil part, at least, don't have any problems w/ the dress)... she looks impish, maybe. I frankly think that Bnoch nailed it on the head. Should she be some kind of tableaux figure? or can one have personality w/o being good/evil? I wax philosophic but what I'm trying to say is that I don't think her fabulous expression deviates from the parameters of the CHOW. You go, Bnoch. (And please don't hurt me, Pixeltuner.)

Hi all! Here's where I got to by yesterday. There's shit loads to resolve and lighting to add. I'm having a blast with this! Not really done many multi character paintings before so a great learning experience Thanks to the mods for an awesome topic!
Totally agree - this is an awesome topic with fantastic entries so far.
I just wish I had more time to finish mine.
I'm going to be sitting on a plane tomorrow morning so I only have limited time today to finish everything.
Here's what I've done so far. Still not completely sure about my character designs.
I think B works better but maybe the composition still needs work.
What do you guys think?
First one is A.
mcreation: thanks, good points!
I tried a hat here.. actually going for a manga look I think.
GEB - yep! added the background in! yours looks great! multicharacter pieces are a pain to do, im struggling with it myself, but you seem to be nailing it!
kingkostas - great of you to do a paintover, we need more people like that in this community!
- good improvement!
marko markovic - very unique design you have there!
FINISHED! time for them orthography views.
i thinking of adding this to my portfolio, whaddyall think?
Almost there- I just need to hammer my values and colors in line, and add one more pass of details- then it's on to the ortho views!
Christoffer: I like #2 a bit better- I'd suggest cropping in on the action a bit more, and maybe angling the whole image a few degrees to build the dynamism a bit more.
Hideyoshi: Cute design for Aoife! The hat works well.
Daniorr: Great piece- your Aoife looks pretty capable of taking care of herself (but obviously a giant intimidating mech never hurts!)
Marco Markovic Excellent design, great work all around! One tiny quibble- the highlight on the guardian's head feels a bit out of place- it's a bit distracting IMHO
Geb Sweet- well done tackling such a complex scene! I'd add a little more highlighting to your main characters- they get a bit lost in the shadows on the left.
SlowDaddy and Andrusiak :Both very cool in very different ways- looking forward to seeing these both in the finals!
Your only competition is your last painting

You are entitled to your opinion. I think Bnoch's work is great but I'm just not jumping on the 'OMGZORZ AWESOME' train here because it could be lot better. Yes, the rendering on the material is great, yes the face looks great. But if you look at his past chows that's pretty much always the case and the rest is pretty underdeveloped. There are weird anatomy flaws, the dress looks oddly flat, the hand of the robot that's on her shoulders looks like some kind of backpack at first.I disagree (with the evil part, at least, don't have any problems w/ the dress)... she looks impish, maybe. I frankly think that Bnoch nailed it on the head. Should she be some kind of tableaux figure? or can one have personality w/o being good/evil? I'm not trying to be picky here and I'm all for focal points in an image, but this guy is obviously destined for great things so I'm being an ass and try to push him further
The first impression i had with her was of a dangerous and sinister little girl. But it just could as well be a mix of shyness and impishness too. To let the viewer wondering about it is good imo, mostly if that is the goal.I disagree (with the evil part, at least, don't have any problems w/ the dress)... she looks impish, maybe. I frankly think that Bnoch nailed it on the head. Should she be some kind of tableaux figure? or can one have personality w/o being good/evil? Hey guys, really bad of me to ask for crit when I given so little this week, apologies.
I was wondering if I could get some feedback?
Looking to create an image that's reflective of renaissance portraiture of angels and adding in the duo's star sign (that Aoife made one night).
This image is my place holder to give an idea for where im going, so please look past the multiple styles and colours for now
The robot has been a really tough for me to think up, any crit/thoughts would be highly appreciated:]

even tough bnoch totally owned this challenge with his outstanding entry, heres my attempt
my Sketchbook plz help me become a better artist !
Hi Guys...as usual I'm pulling a hit and run and dropping a crap sketch...Im a busy man and have no time for these puerile games!
(then a chorus rises from CA users) : !!!!!!
ok..just kidding I wish I could participate more often and definitely complete SOMETHING...just once! T_T
Anyhow great work so far everyone... PixelTuner..I LOL'd at the rubber ducky w/the missile launcher... HA!
This CHOW topic is something I want to be a part of, but I jumped on board way too late. Going to see what I can do to make this happen! Here's some silhouettes and sketches I finished.
Haven't spent much time on Aoife yet. I'm leaning towards something innocent and silly.
dan liimatta, good call on Etna! The first thing I thought of when I saw this CHOW was the Disgaea artist, Takehito Harada. I'm definitely pulling influence from his style. (Also, from Studio Ghibli's fun, innocent nature.)
daniorrr, love the orange hair. It really is an eye-catcher! Goes good with the Irish origin of the name too. Tempted to borrow that hair color myself.
The last image is kinda related. My friend used my name for one of his Disgaea 4 characters. So I drew what I figured the character looked like based on his description.
12:47 PM - Buttermonster: MARK BADOY is now lady samurai class
12:48 PM - Buttermonster: mainly to learn some skills, might put it back to warrior and put shoes in every slot because you are FAT AND SLOW
Trolljack i think the perspective on the robot arm is weird, because his hand is gripping aoefie, but the part of the arm that passes near her feet passes in front, instead of passing in the back as it should, i like the robot, it reminds me of a planet, or the death star on star wars, but maybe he could be grabbing aoefie instead of only flying around, almost like a father when grabs his son up high to help her reach something high, he could be helping her getting to the "stars" if you get me..hope i have been of some help
Hi, I'm very new to the forms and wanted to participate in the character of the week challenge. There so much talented work on this site! It's hard to post mine. O_O
Here's what I'm working on.
I thought it would be a good concept to base the robot guardian on a strong looking animal. A wolf was the first thing that came to mind.
good idea sherri rose
i dont know if your going for a realistic style or more cartoon like, but i recommend nonetheless to reference real wolfs as they might help you with the design and anatomy, and watch out for the girls wide shoulders, unless you want her to look really masculine, you shouldnt make them so wide..
welcome to the CHOW challenges any help you may want just ask
Thank you for the advice, Mcreation! My style tends to balance between cartoon and realism. I use to draw purely anime style, but after I took drawing classes, a lot of the realism elements stuck.
I was planning on making the girl appear small instead of masculine so I'll defiantly make the shoulders smaller.
one more wip...here it goes
Aaaaaaa... so late. But I had a spark of an idea, so why not. Let's see if I can finish this.
little progress havent been working on it been playing shooters online
i like your guardian the colors and the scen my only thing is the girll seems awkwardly placed she is more rendered then the rest itll prolly come togethor when you finish it
@daniorrr, looking very, very cool.
@Kahel i hope you can develop and finish that concept, one of the more originals so far.
@mcreation looking a lot more 3d, nice evolution from the first sketches. Maybe is a little too abstract and looks like the guardian wouldn´t be able to move. Great progress.
@trolljack, is very dificult to read the last picture. The Aoife design is looking very..Aoife.
So i might not be able to finish but i´ll try...white hair for Aoife.
Aoife's cause for the transformation is unknown. Many say she's the result of a mass abduction taken place in Chicago's westside suburbs back in 2005. The following image was taken recently by an iPhone and was immediately confiscated by authorities. I was able to upload this before they got to it. Please don't mention this to the cops. Thanks.

Hi everybody! this is my first post here in Conceptart.org...Im from Argentina so I don't write in english very well, but i can understand when I read.
Critics an comments are welcome!...I will finish it tomorrow.
Wow, I'm sorta embarrassed to show this. I struggle with coloring in PS and this was probably the longest time I've ever spent on one piece. And you bastiches make it look so easy. ;]
