Do cats dream of electric sheep?- Jess Da Silvas Sketchbook sb adventures.

    Hi, im Jess Da Silva

I draw sometimes, but i mostly dont , id lke to change that.

Im currently at my last year of studying graphic design but i have taught myself illustration little by little because its something im really interested, or were interested, well... i were but then i forgot, and now again, or something like that.

The thing i use to put in lots of effort then suddenly let spend big chunks of time for the last couple years were i haventpicked drawing back up or just forget all about it, for my shame, its something i regret.

Between work and school i am trying to get back on the horse again and rediscovering what made it fun in the first place, and opening a new sketchbook is a good way to push myself a bit towards it.

Im just starting out with digital, still trying to get comfortable with it, also i want to learn more about 3d modeling.

    TLR heres some crap

you do not suck,...little kitten knight... >.<
firstoff thanks for the post on my SB,i do try to incorperate what i learn as soon as possible, you are so right though... :< i'm going to try a direction and stick with it now.(short attention spa...)

YOUR sketchbook here, however is really interesting. you have a great start and all your pieces are so finished!!! thats awesome.. never lose that finishing thing you do... (i never finish a work) .. this drawing is bloody incredible... i'd love to see more like that.

this painting however is weak compared to your others. it is a great painting with color and design dont get me wrong, i can see the effort. what i noticed is you've got color, shading and rendering down really well, but like in the zelda pic your proportions and hands clutching things are off. my number one reccomendation would be to draw figures in perspective using blocks or w/e... i know that is REALLY hard and i should take my own advice but i think you should do anything that solidifies your figures and details.
other than that... bravo. this stuff has extreme potential... i'm very jealous. your work has SMOOTH perfect! lines and edges... so nice and neat.
can't wait to see more. thanks again for dropping by my SB

EDIT. Thanks Kriss. I can at least try to improve

    Thanks for the words Sporus.

Yeah, that zelda picture was one of those things i though looked good when i did it and now can not stare at for too long. Im still strugling with digital painting, watching ctrl+paint and daarkeen videos and stuff ike that when i can, im way too used to pencil.

The finishing part, well... i hardly finish anything
Heres a Chow i started one night and then didnt finish for example

I came for the armored kitten and stayed for Battletoads. Looks like you taught yourself illustration quite well! Some figure drawing will probably help a ton, but to be honest I prefer kittens and NES games... So keep up the good work!

    Thanks Yochachan.

Yeah thats part of the thing with me, i went trough the books and all but have been inconsistent to keep studies and life drawing so i think ill keep more of a habit to do just that and mixed it in with thing i find fun. I do fancy retro stuff a lot.

Btw, i usually wait until i post an image to reply in this thread.

Ive been meaning to try out more cartony stuff, use linearts, less values and so on.
Just playing a bit in PS before crashing to bed. First weekend out of the semester

Fun sketchbook. I think the biggest area to improve on is your foreshortening. That's what is sticking out the most to me.

Self-portrait. Drawing in front of a mirror is rather akward.

My own head in Zbrush, figuring modeling in Zbrush as i go. The small areas and details of the expression are tricky but this is fun.

Wow your really trying a variety of styles to move life like to really cartoony.Great texture with your pencil images. And I gotta say I love the battletoads artwork since I loved the game when I was younger. Even though it was so hard XD.

    Thanks jellyswirl.

It did felt like a cruel joke to give a kid a really fun game yet totally batshit difficult to beat. That game was like kids introduction to cursing.

Trying stuff and shooting some arrows on zbrush, totally want to learn much more

Wow, your pencil renders are insane! Also, Battletoads + Super Meat Boy + Cave Story = winner sketchbook.

Did you beat cave story? (with the best ending of course, anything else isn't beating the game )

    @Januz Thanks!.

I finished Cave Story only with the regular ending, (fighting Misery, the Dr and so on) I didnt knew about all the other stuff you have to do for the other boss but afterwards. Maybe at some point ill try again but still, those last fights werent all that easy, its something

    --------------

Been away from the web for a few days, im trying to lower my log in time to a minimum. I scarcely do and mostly at work in the mornings when i need to check my mail anyways.

Anyways, this is mostly the kind of thing i been doing at work lately, usually while anoyed and listening to Pantera or something and counting the hours to the end of the day and the days for the end of the week. (this skecth is for something i believe wont be made)

I dislike my job a lot, and dislike needing it to pay for school the most, i guess i can only suck it up for now but i definitely dont want anything like it on the future, that would be a bleak prospect so if theres an incentive to try to better my chances for a more fulfiling experience theres that .

Ha! Let me guess, you're forced to work with vectors in your work and follow the lame design desicions of your boss. And you hate working with vectors because you have to be handling those little annoying nodes instead of doing art with the stylus that actually feels like drawing/painting? I do too

I can tell because that last image is light-years below your drawing level
