Chris! Get back on that horse!

I've been horrible at keeping my old SB alive. It's been dead for years.

That doesn't mean I haven't stopped drawing & painting, though, not as much as I used to. Sooo the plan is to reacquaint myself with this place, basically, start fresh - again. You get the idea.

Here's my old SB for reference.

I'll start off with the most recent stuff in the next post.

Here's some fanart from Doom, Half-Life and Streetfighter, just to show where I am today.
It's kind of a mixed bag of different styles and techniques.
Personally, I didn't know what the hell I was doing half the time-
-just mixing stuff and see what happened.

Oh, I've recently started sketching on paper again as you can see on the last one.

I'll post some of my original stuff later.

Oy, ty for stopping by mah lil SB.^_^

I love your minataur-esque creature (if its from a game, I dunno which one), nice mood and character movement!

I like how you're playing with styles. Keep at it, I'll be watching. ^^

Please, help me improve by visiting my sketchbook and kicking me in the ass! ^_^

xerenity -Thanks! Yes, the minotaur monster is my tribute to the classic Hellknight from Doom.

A small update for now. I entered last weeks chow a little too late and couldn't finish in time, so I figured I'd just go my own way, at my own pace with it.

I could use some crits on color and composition. I'm no good with environments.
    Thanks

Good stuff man, I'm loving your ideas.

Do you flip your canvases as you work on them in photoshop? If not, it might help you - you'll see mistakes that you didn't catch before.

I can tell you need to do some perspective studies. (don't we all) I've noticed it's off in quite a few of your pieces.

    Love your HL2 stuff haha

liquorbleu - Thanks. Yes, I flip the canvas back and forth all the time. I even have a button set for it. I definitely plan on learning more about perspective.

Alright, another small update on my wip.
Tell me what you guys think of it. I'm thinking about adding like a large ray of pale light coming down on the girl.

Heya, love the environment, the concept is very engaging. Your idea about a light beam falling through the trees sounds like it would work well.

I'm not super qualified to make any critiques, but something that caught my eye was somewhat of a lack of any strong light source, I just feel like the image is flatter than it could be with only a little more highlight, and a few darker darks. But then I am unfamiliar with your workflow, maybe you have considered this already.

Love the DOOM tributes, but man who didn't pick up that helmet? Thats worth like 10 armor!

Wretched - Hey, thanks! Yea, the light is all over the place atm, kind of like my "work flow". Haha! ;P I really suck at this and should learn to block in the values before I start anything else.

Doom guy is picky with his helmets. If there's brainmatter in there, he won't touch it with a ten foot pole.

    Wavenwater - Thank you.

Here's another wip I started working on about a month ago. Guess I sort of forgot about it. I took some inspiration from Red Sonya and combined it with a rougue, punk'ish warrior girl, who doesn't take shit from no one. I figured I'd post it and see if anyone notices anything I need to correct. It's non ref.

Gah this last one is lovely, great sense of scale and the hues of the luminescent areas seem really well balanced. The large central column seems to flatten out a bit toward the bottom, but overall awesome so far.

..and 286??? Wow, I definitely need to sketch more.

nice work man! your linework is pretty solid! i think your painting is still evolving, but i like where its headed. i would concentrate on trying to define a more obvious focal point in your future paintings. vary the level of detailing from the center of the focal point outwards, putting the highest details where you want the viewer to look. some of the texturing is a bit distracting at the moment. but your headed in the right direction, so just keep at it man!

Wretched -lol! I wish. #286 is the number of the challenge, not the number of sketches. :p I'm working on getting rid of the flatness. Don't know if I'll succeed or not. Thanks again.

Immortal Cintiq -There's always an obvious, simple solution to everything. Thanks for stopping by.

Stpete - No problem. Thanks for the encouragement.

NickyBeats - Hey, thanks! Yeah, I definitely need to work harder on these things.

Okay. Slow day. Here's a doodle/slash volume practice I did tonight.

I've finished two wips. Gonna try and complete the chow now.

More environments will follow in the future.
I want to get better at this.

Love your take on doom and red sonja.

Your latest piece with the hunter i would consider one of your best.
Tree's can have a lot of personality, if you're gonna do a forest scene, perhaps do some studies after you've done the thumbnails and sketches to understand the forms and textures of tree's aswell as other forest elements.

the more infomed you are the more it will benefit you in the long run.
Your definatly heading in the right direction.

    hej hej!
i like that underwater facility, nice work! also the latest painting is coming along great!
maybe just beware of tangents a bit, like the edges of the cave is very close to her arm and the tree, so it can look odd when they almost have the same angles, also the rock by her feet kinda floats above the tree branch.

    keep it up

Dude I just looked at your old sketchbook, didn't know you did album cover work, thats awesome. And all the sketches and studies... man I need to get my hands dirtier. Inspiring to see your earlier stuff and see how you've progressed.

Hope to see an update soon! I'm even slower than you are, though, so I can't really whine

    Hope things are going well

Time to get this sucker up to date.

Lumens - Thanks a lot. I struggled a bit with it.

rumpenstiltzkin - Tja. Thanks for the tip. I shall keep that in mind.

rastaray - Hey, thanks. I suck at updating. Just another thing to work on I guess. There will be more pencils, I promise.

    Big Orange - Thanks.

Wretched - Hehe. Yeah, I've done some work for a friend and some other guy in Spain. I have new stuff that I'll post soon. Thanks.

I'll post some chow stuff for now and some sketches. Moleskin coming soon..

Sushy - Thanks, Sushy. What about her boots?
Don't be afraid to be more specific with your crits. I'd love to know how I could improve on my designs. It will always become useful somehow down the road.

Micro update. This time it's for my D00M characters.
I've been struggling with this Mancubus wip for a few months.
The perspective I chose has made it hard for me to get the background right.
The vanishing points are completely messed up and I'm planning on starting from skratch and just do an entirely different setting.

I like the last piece. Try to ground it on the floor by adding shadows. And try some atmospheric perspective.

Chrysley - Not sure what you mean with atmospheric perspective, but there will be shadows once I've reworked the bg. It's completely wrong as it is now. Thanks a lot.

    kevin_ - Thanks, kevin.

Time for some long awaited moleskins.
I've been doodling on and off for a while, on vacations, trains...job, and these are the results. Sketches and studies coming soon.
