Unfortunately, since Dave's portraits were such a great success if anyone were to do a redesign portrait of any classic comic book or cartoon character it'll be claimed as Dave Rapoza-esque. This is sad because I'd love to do portraits of classic characters I grew up watching on TV, I did a painting of Goliath from Gargoyles not too long ago and anticipated being called a copier of Rapoza's style so I changed it to being an upper body to head shot.
I for one think these portraits are fantastically done, I love the textures used on the Scarecrow and Mr. Freeze. Of course they are similar to Dave Rapoza's style but that doesn't mean people still can't enjoy these, so well done sir
Hey dudes, don't worry about it. I encourage everybody to do whatever they want. I would never take offense to this and I don't think anybody else should. You did a great job on these and for me its very flattering to know I had a part in inspiring you to do something.
I used to always try and do other peoples approaches and style constantly to learn, but you may as well get some publicity out of it at the same time. So no reason why you shouldnt do your own batman thing. You will eventually go into doing exactly what you like, I know it because you're obviously skilled in what you do. So don't worry about it, just keep on doing exactly what you want. Even if that means learning from someone else directly. xoxoxo
wow guys, cool it. its obvious these are meant to emulate dave as a form of learning. and the bottom line is, everyone here has learned from emulating and copying others in the industry. i could go into specifics about the few of you that told him not to do it, and trust me, youve all done it. so have I, so has dave. Its obvious Pixelhead is at a point in his career where hes starting to see some serious changes in his work, and attaching himself to an IP like dave did is an excellent way to generate some attention. This is just like when marko created the degenesis look, and then tons of people emulated it to learn from and further that initial idea we all loved so much. were all guilty of doing this, which sucks to say since its not some kind of crime to begin with.
Hey man, beautiful work. My one crit is that you seem to have gone straight for the fantasy woman with ridiculously sexualized clothing cliche. I'm personally really tired of seeing that sort of thing.
