    Bnoch: Great stuff, both design and atmosphere wise. There are some serious anatomy issues on both your dragon and the rider variations though mostly on arms and legs.

    even though i should be studying, i couldn’t resist doodling this DIRTYDIRTY concept. i wont/shouldnt finish it before the deadline though

    This dragon rider utilizes the breath of the dragon to shoot toxic lazorbeams with his gun.

    great work so far ppl.

    @theUnknownSketcher, really like the comp and dragon, the piece has a very nice feel to it. Not sure if the rider would be in that position though.

    An update! Just can't fucking figure out how something can have both arms and wings.....NEED REFS!
    Edit: would be really nice if somebody can elaborate a bit on this. I'm just thinking that maybe the dragon can have a really long scapula with two sockets in it. Or maybe there's a pair of smaller scapuli further in front and closer to the spine for the wings.
    Edit2h wait, didn't see Havoc's post. Now that is a great diagram, think I'll just adopt that design.

    Thanks very much PixelTuner, yeah, that's really useful. And just googling dragon anatomy actually yields some pretty incredible results. Well, now that's a good lesson on how to use the internet xD

    So here are some of the better ones I've found, not all of them are really very plausible, but in all fairness, I'm not sure how much better I can do. At least it always helps a lot to see what possibilities other people have come up with.

    Landylachs, I like all of the pretty tails on the dragon. I would say it's fine but the brief says 3/4 must be visible, this is just a profile. It's a shame, I quite like it, but we wouldn't want you to finish it and then not be eligible!

    This is Steven.
    He likes Yorissan. He doesn't like that Yorissan has put on a little weight recently.
    I erased his back leg, it was shit. I wanted it to be a horse-like dragon, I will try to render it tonight, although the outcome of how well that will go is in a state of flux. His wings would've obscured the saddle, maybe I will do a picture of Yorissan and Steven in flight.

    Amazing, but do we really need to say that at this point? ;-)

    @Rob Powell
    I like your composition choice, seems very powerful and the lines of movement are interesting.

    @Pixeltuner
    Thanks for the tutorial!

    @Ohi
    Its easy to fall into the trap of just trying to make something out of nothing just because we have an idea of the era. For instance, you could have goggles with the face visible, or goggles with a scarf/gasmask over the face. You could give him a leather flight cap or a plastic helmet. Find a few references instead of just trying to create something out of nothing, its a great exercise, its faster, and keep the ideas flowing!

    @Dscreet
    I like the concept but the anatomy of the figure underneath is really not very readable. I mean, what's that weird thing coming out of his/her chest that looks like a curved piece of wood? Maybe a few quick pose sketches would help you define an easier to work with silhouette.

    Some sketches of mine will be forthcoming tonight.

    By the way, DO WE NEED TO SHOW 3/4 OF THE DRAGON TOO? I haven't been able to find the answer anywhere and I am wanting to get set up on my composition thumbnails soon... If it was posted somewhere else then call me a buffoon but please give me the answer! THANKS!

    Alvis Drake, Dragon Rider

    This week has just been too busy, we'll see if this goes further I need to add a few satchels of herbs that can control unruly dragons and figure out the details, Here's a quick rough of the dragon as well.

    Great feeling in the dragon. Its coming very good.
    @RXMT
    I like the head design. Perhaps you should extend the canavas. It feels a bit like the canavas limits the dragon.
    @jonafunart
    Overall feeling and composition. Keep on rendering it out. Perhaps have some small color spots.
    @ashess
    First thumb is my favorite. Last has an interesting perspective.
    @Abrazuno
    Nice character I like the similarities between the rider and the dragon.

    well, i did like it better

    mouser / dragon is looking great! feel like the rider´s body might be a bit short.

    abrazuno/ good concept. dragon is a lil stiff still.

    rxmt/ nice inky- some perspective issues. creature´s head feels flat and I think the rider should fall behind the shoulders a bit.

    oh right, went right onto picking one so lil time!

    so what shall I wear? red or blue?

    Hey guys. I'm still pretty new to character design, having only attempted it a few times. I figure this should be a good way to ease me into it, having both character and creature design in it. Here's my little guys. I like drawing kids being fuckin' rad more than badass adults, most of the time, so I went with a kid rider. I wanted to evoke something dog-like in the dragon, wherein you get a sense of that dogged loyalty to its master. Anyway, tell me what you think. Crits would be very much appreciated.

    EDIT: Added my second line pass.
