Hey there all, this is my first time participating in a ChoW rather than lurking. This topic just so happens to be irresistible. ;P

Here's my dragon and rider so far:

Just a heads up, this goes to the functionality of some of the designs happening, I'm seeing alot of saddles directly between wings, this could pose a problem, while hindering the dragons ability to fly i think there are going to be a lot of unconscious frequent flyer miles adding up from gigantic wings smacking the rider everytime there is a flap of the wings.

Thumbs up to those whose saddle is on the neck, not inbetween the wings.

Garkudion besides the previous statement, i think you should rework this a bit, while i like the approach of your design, taking it to a different place than the traditional look of the dragon, his wings, for the bulk of this mammoth tubby guy, are quite small and as of the moment completely useless for flight and by the position of his legs... hes in mid flight.

just my 2 cents, take it as you will, wish i had time to join you this week

P.S. Rob, is that 1st design Pyramid Head from Silent Hill??? ....like the 2nd dragon concept, its got a dragon meets griffon vibe

    Alvis Drake, Dragon rider

mmm, got a wedding this weekend so I don't think I can finish but here's a quick portrait sketch and the beginnings of the character study, going to try and keep the armor as organic as possible. Going for the Grizzled veteran rider who trains upstart rookies. The dragon will come later >.<

Reworked my dragon a bit to accomadate for DoctorDigits suggestion on the saddles. Also defined a bit more of the rider's outfit and dragon in general.

    Rendering tomorrow!

Tired, quick Wip: the dragon Aristocrat.

Don' know if i'll continue on this route, maybe i'll switch to something more traditional.

Will post something more substantial and comment on all the other designs tomorrow.

Tired of looking at it for now. I'll continue with it tomorrow after some sleep! That, and a character sheet. Thanks for your help, Doctor!

Edit: So my bro just informed me that I didn't follow the brief. Oops.

Last update before sleep. I am not too sure where I am going with this design... trying to figure out how the rider's outfit uses dragon materials...

Garkudion, I'm not sure which part of it goes against the brief, but I love that chunky dragon! Great work.

    Alvis Drake, Dragon Rider

a little more deets before off to work, made him a little thicker and the lost of his arm is the main reason why he retired. Still working out the armor/scales. Dragons should do most of the fighting, but I figured a little backup dirk freely given by the dragon can't hurt to have. Will see what else happens later tonight

Nice update pixelturner but think a little bit of the seat on the dragon, if his head is gonna be that big its gonna cover the view of the rider, try to put the seat a bit higher or make the neck longer.

Man I love this idea, wish we had more time ><

Anyways give me your thoughts - trying to get the castle on fire to look like a castle on fire...this is such a great concept idea!

@pixeltuner: not bad, I like your dragon but your rider's proportions and face need some more work imo

I already did a concept for a dragon rider earlier this year, posting it for some inspiration

and no, this is not avatar-inspired. it just happened to look a bit like that
