My final. If I posted wrong in any way please let me know. Thanks and congrats to all that crossed the finish line!
Great entries so far!
[trying very hard to don't write anything stupid][failed]
very last minute, but after extremely busy weekend i'm suprised i got it on time anyways.
is my first contest. I realize It is passed eight. I had to resize the images and when I uploaded them the first time the window changed and had to re upload them. Sorry for the delay. I had a lot of fun with this.

Damn, I just wrote out some very nice comments and critiques for everyone and somehow my session timed out or something so I'll just say nice works from everyone.
JediScum Whoa! Those images are waaaay too big. Please size them down to no larger than 1000x1000 pix.
Comments for everyone! Join me or die! Can you do any less?
Josu: Nice intense composition. Can't really tell what that is she's leaning on, and the environment seems more evocative of a swamp than the sea. In terms of character design I really like your choice of colours and the length of the tail, but other than that seems a bit plain to me.
lancer_idenoure: Wow, there's something really awesomely eerie about your image! And something really awesomely creepy about those faces. The anatomy or pose of the siren on the left seems a little stiff to me, but it's a very well composed image. Beautiful understated colour palette too. Yeah, awesome!
fishysmell: Nice weird idea! But I think this style of painting is just too rough for CHoW. You don't get a feel for the anything like the texture of your character's skin, and the anatomy looks like squishy clay.
ded: Man, that's some LOVECRAFTIAN stuff right there! Nice and horrific. Your illustration seems more evocative of a cult leader, which could be an interesting take on the idea of a siren. I think the arm fins on their own like that look a bit arbitrary, and maybe you could have incorporated some more sea creature design elements.
Yajmon: Instrumental hair? That's an awesome idea but I don't think it really comes across in your image. Really nice cave background. Something about those skin/clothes makes me think of plants and leaves rather than the sea.
denidimochka: Love the axolotl(?) influence! And that that weird mix of human and unhuman anatomy looks really freakish and somehow natural at the same time. It's a shame you didn't show off more of it in your illustration, but the pose of your character, the setting and the tilted angle all add up to a very strong composition, it's got the feeling of a real moment of seeing something strange, if that long rambling sentence makes sense.
Smolin: Nice shark lookin' face! Good sense of movement in your illustration too. The overall design is maybe a little too simple, IMO.
carakhan: Really like that expression, it's different and interesting. The barnacles are an awesome detail too. And I the contrast between the red and blue greys is cool. Really strong image.
JanJager: So fucking bizarre! And I mean that in a good way.
Pixeltuner: I love the composition of your illustration, and dat face! Like a rotting mermaid, nasty! Your choice of colours for the background are super atmospheric too. No crits come to mind, to be honest.
Whiskey Sour: I like the head tentacle, and the way it's lifting up the key necklace, that's a really cool detail. Got to say I'm really not feeling the character design as a whole though, it's just too much like a typical mermaid but with a gremlin face.
bara: Very cool mysterious atmosphere! And interesting character design too.
prepsage: Something about this image really conveys sound! And I love how fish-y and animalistic your character is, while having enough human characteristics to make it creepy. The bright colour scheme is refreshing too.
JessiBean: Yeah that's pretty much flawless.
Stirpel: Nice to see some cartooning in CHoW! Nice idea, well communicated. Maybe the siren is a bit... generically ugly, though? She could have been really hideous!
limbox: Wow, crystal crab claws, that's awesome! There's a lot going on in your image, and I'm not sure it all works together. It's a lot clearer in your character sheet though, maybe a different pose would have shown everything better.
nuda.pl: Brilliant! It's so floaty, ethereal and creepy! Looks fragile and threatening at the same time.
Ironbyte: I think there's an interesting kind of timeless quality to your character, she looks like she could be modern or ancient or both, that's very cool. Striking composition too, and I like that she's using an instrument. The wings seem a bit under-rendered, maybe?
Rustveld: Nice use of colours, and cool soft painting style. I don't know what it is, but your illustration seems to be lacking something interesting your character sheet has.
JediScum: Dude, 3600x3300?! You need to resize again. I think you need to work on composing your illustration so the character is the focus, and the perspective of the whole image.
Well I think that's everyone, what an awesome round this was. If anyone has the time I'd be grateful for some comment/crit on my entry, good luck to everyone doing this week's challange.
Le wild Aly Fell appears. Does ex-mod resize for 5 mana. It's super effective!
Voted for Jan Jager, JessieBean, Stripel and Ded.
JanJager: Creepy multitit siren ftw. She looks more scared than frightful though.
JessieBean: Nice atmosphere and foreground elements are nice.
Striple: I loved the first sketch already and the end result is just as great. Very funny and something different
Ded: The end result falls a bit flat due to the texture overlay, lack of colourdepth and the folds that aren't following the form really but as a design it is very nice and catches the eye.
Pixeltuner: Got my vote. The design, look and composition were great. I think the proportions on your character sheet were a bit weird though.
bara: Very close second for me. Beautiful piece
