EbbFlowe will pierce the heavens with his drill!!

    Hey there!

I'm EbbFlowe, and I honestly think I'm the worst artist in the world right now.

But that will change! In fact, it has to change! I'm not talented in the least, but I have to become an amazing artist. I have to be drawing for a living I will be a professional artist!

I really don't have much to show at the moment, but I felt that I needed to get this sketchbook going RIGHT NOW. So here's some of my stroke and assorted basic shapes practice (some based on Vilppu), as well as some gestures I did at the beginning of the year. I've been avoiding gestures in lieu of getting my stroke and shapes more up to par, so I'll need to do a set of gesture drawings to see if anything's changed with my improved perception of form.

I hope that this sketchbook will show not just you guys, but myself, that (radical, earthshaking, HEAVEN PIERCING) improvement is possible from any beginning point of skill, and that it is never too late if you're willing to pour yourself into it. Please critique me as you see fit!

I could really use advice on how to draw the lines you want to draw. I feel like I have a good understanding of how to portray form/depth, but somewhere between my brain and my hand it all gets lost. For example drawing ellipses in general, or ellipses around a sphere to give it the proper depth/angle to base a head on, etc. You can see the issue in the gesture drawings, they just don't feel right.

Hey David. I like those line exercises. neat idea. I have another suggestion for a "point-to-point" line exercise. you basically take a blank page, and put a "dot" anywhere on the page. Put another dot, as far or as close, anywhere else on the page, and connect them as quick as possible. The whole idea is to try and get "straight" lines with speed. Keep doing until the page is messy with dots and lines criss-crossing everywhere.

The gestures are exciting and not the standard "boring" standing pose everyone usually starts off with. Keep up that energy! and you SHALL pierce the heavens!

    God bless!

It's been a while since I first posted! But by no means did I stop drawing!

...probably better to update more frequently though, using CA's uploader is a pain. I'll probably split up the uploading over the next day or so.

What I have is some gestures and random stuff I've done over the last month. I can see some improvements, but always looking for more. If you have something to suggest, please do!

For today, here are the gestures I've done so far since last post. Sorry for the crappy cellphone pics - I used a somewhat large sketchbook and it just won't fit in the scanner!

Here's the second half of my upload from yesterday. This time some sketching around from a smaller sketchbook I take with me to work or when I chill with friends.

Update time! I'm determined to finally start and finish some of my many drawing books, one at a time. I figure I need the basics (and the development of the "artist's eye") the most at the beginning, so I'm starting with Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain

Here's my pre-instruction drawings, to gauge my starting point before I work through the rest of the book.
