Working on this one, deep sea savage and the alien type siren. Like this one but it's similar to some of the others.

There are some really nice concepts so far. Hope I can find the time to finish this piece. My idea is that the siren hides her hideous mouth with her hair and lures in sailors with her eyes. I'll have the full face drawn next to her.

Cool stuff so far Looking forward to seeing how everyone's turns out.

Not sure if I'll finish this challenge but just wanted to post a quick sketch to get my idea out there. My thought was to give my siren a kind of holographic 'mask' which, combined with her alluring voice creates the overall illusion of a captivating temptress.... If I do this I'm not sure how I'll manage the holographic effect, but that's what reference is for right?

I'm doing this one on the funny side. Even ugly sirens have a chance
As I'm happy with linework and composition so far, its gonna be inked and colored now.

    Siren Sketches

Nice topic, here's what I have so far.

First I tried a more mermaid-esque siren, then a more harpy-like siren. But I'm thinking to combine the two.

I'm playing with the idea to have her actually be somewhat grotesque looking, but creating the illusion of beauty by singing and playing the harp.

    WIP!

I hardly ever draw, it's a hobby really, and I've never really actually rendered anything out. So it's a lengthy process for me. I've got a lot of work to do, want to render out the face proper, get some environment going, possibly some more movement / storytelling, fix the point where the woman merges into the squid, take a goood look at anatomy and fix the sea. To work!

Art is not about competing against others and being better than everyone else, but it is about competing against yourself and discovering your greatest potential!

I'm actually kinda interested in the two week thing, maybe just as a test run. I know everyone's freaking out because so much sick artwork has been produced by fantabulous artists in only 1 week's time, but I'm just imagining if they can produce that kind of quality in only a week what could everyone do with two? So I would be excited for the new time limit

We've done 2 weeks plenty of times. The art produced is typically no better because everyone procrastinates the first week. Shorter time periods forces you to think and problem solve quickly rather than let your mind wander endlessly and not produce anything. I'm not a concept artist professionally, but as a designer, I never have that much time to produce finished work. I would assume concept artists in the field don't either.

Please PM me if you'd like an individual crit.

I'm a newbie here but I've made the same experiences as prepsage describes. I don't believe that the overall quality of submissions would increase, too. Would prefer to stick to the one week challenges.

I'm not interested in rendering something to death for two weeks. I mostly set these things up in a couple of evenings, make sure the design works and render it to a point where it works and that's enough for me. The fun part in these challenges is that you have a new one every week to keep things fresh.

Haven't participated in a while due to various worthwhile excuses, but trying to get this one finished.

Siren diving into the water with her prey.

the sailor is obviously unfinished, but any crits on the compostion, colors, or siren would be greeted with prodigious use of the thanks button.

I'll try to get in some critiques of all the sick art on display here while I'm mucking about at work tomorrow.

The most beautiful thing we can experience is the
mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all
science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who
can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe,
is as good as dead: his eyes are closed.

    Late to the party

First idea was that the siren could be made of the very rocks/reef that the ships crash upon.

Second was that she's the water itself.

Awe man I did a whole bunch of siren designs for a show last year! The creature got dropped in the end due to budget bollocks... Though I still don't think I can upload

This topic is great! i hope I get some time to start this weekend.

I vote for the second week!

"We're all one thing, like cells in a body. 'Cept we can't see the body. The way fish can't see the ocean. And so we envy each other. Hurt each other. Hate each other. How silly is that? A heart cell hating a lung cell."
