Dark Alice in Wonderland, Smoking Opium

A work in progress assignment for class.
    UPDATE: please scroll down

The colour scheme and concept have been approved by my professor, but the shoulder/arm/elbow anatomy looks really off to me all of the sudden. If anyone could provide some insight for me, I would be so grateful.

We're at finals here at SCAD and I'm like a chicken with my head cut off D:

Iíd say itís probably because of the way you have the strap of her dress hovering over her shoulder instead of falling over it. Youíve also got the arm attached to the strap instead of her body. As for the problem with the rest of her arm; it looks to me like her upper arm isnít nearly long enough, and the concavity above her elbow isnít doing you any favors either.

Have you created any reference material for this piece?

Reference all the way. A simple camera setup and/or a large mirror can fix most of your issues with the arms right now.

The head and face need a lot of work right now, and could use a good reference. The cranium is just too large, the hairline too receding, the eyesockets too sunken, and the head too box-shaped. It looks very male and elderly right now (quite the opposite of Alice), yet still ridden with anatomical inaccuracies. If you have to sell me on any part of the piece, it will be the face of the central (in this case, only) figure in the picture.

Thanks so much, guys! I had originally just sort of scouted and patched-together some internet images and looks in the mirror, but I'm gonna take some legit photos to work from.

The face was very different before, and my professor had given me some critique to change the face; one of those times where you end up just making it look more wonky.

I think the best way to push forward with her is to set up refs, and completely repaint the face. Thank you guys!!!

(but if anyone sees anything else, please shout it out)

    Hey guys, here's an update.

I shot some refs of my friend who was kind enough to help me out, worked on the arms a bit, and I painted over the dress to make sure the connection between shoulder/arm was more accurate.

I also tried tweaking the face a bit.

    Any thoughts?

Honestly, I'm exasperated... I've drawn this face like, 7 times, and I can never get it to look right.

Any help would be LOVED. I just don't even know what to do with it anymore.
    I've been using references:
