Are you guys all concept artists only?

I'm a regular oil painter, but this is the best art community site I could find. I don't paint for the purpose of animation or any type of media - just for producing a beautiful, interesting painting with some kind of idea behind it. Am I the oddball here?

Oh, no. By no means all concept artists.

I'm a...well, I guess I'm a hobby painter at the moment. But, like you, this was the best art community I've found.
I was once on the receiving end of a critique so savagely nasty, I marched straight out of class to the office and changed my major (sketchbook).

I enjoy looking at concept art, but am not a concept artist myself. I consider myself an animal artist specializing in canine portraiture.

But, you are right, this is one of the best art community websites on the web.

I came to this forum because there is a lot of really nice art work here and it's probably the largest art community on the internet right now. I am by no means a concept artist. I simply like to look at other artist's work and post my own things on an active forum.

I'm an utterly amateurish hobbyist shamelessly hanging around with the professionals, not hesitating to tell them about my aesthetic ideas. You can imagine how it pisses them off. :-)

Seriously though, I find that I learn more here than at other art communities, and I like the way in which I can freely use expressions like "pisses me off" without some puritanical moderator breathing down my neck. Go try that at a place like WetCanvas! I eventually left there when a mod told me I am not allowed to use a string like "#$@%^#$" in the place of a naughty word, because it might offend someone...

Nope. Tattooing, screenprinting, graphic design, murals, etc. I came here because I practically grew up alongside Wacom and Painter, and I'm a bit of a loner in the arts where I am geographically, so potential stagnation was a concern. This is a group home, a simple/complex love it or leave it situation.

Nope, far from it. It's just that concept art is one of the areas where representational art still survives, and even fantasy art has a point to it. So there are lots of illustrators and comic artists and aspiring artists and some fine artists, but precious few "modern art"ists and photographers here.

I'm a newbie who doesn't know what they want from this yet, whether it's to become a concept artist, a con-goer or just someone who draws for fun and is probably going to give some of the experts a headache as I progress.

Just hoping I decide as I go I suppose, hah!

Concept art is mostly just a name as far as I'm aware, and were not all 'artists'; many people (like myself) are just trying to get better at all different walks of artistic life.
Its so great to see really talented people produce great art on a regular basis (and communicate/compete with them).
Personally, concept art is the sort of thing I really like, ask me to go to a conventional art gallery and I'll scream, shout, stamp my feet and bawl my eyes out until you go without me.

Pff, no. I'm an all-around commercial artist/illustrator/multimedia person, I seem to bounce between fields constantly...

I don't think I entirely know what I'm doing but it doesn't stop me from spouting off.

Feel free to do the same. The worst that'll happen is you look silly. The best that'll happen is you learn something from someone who does know what they're talking about...

i dont think it matters really. As far as i understand the intention for this community is to expand to other areas when 4.0 launches.

I think its fair to assume: Illustration, painting, drawing, media arts, photography, and anything in between.

You guys all sound awesome! It's really nice to have an art community. Especially coming from someone no longer in art classes. We need other artists for inspiration, motivation, and learning.

Yeah I like concept art much more than many other types of art. e.g. paintings of fruit, modern 'art' (a bunch of dots on the wall... UGH stop it already)

The only thing is this site looks REALLY cluttered. It needs to be streamlined, seriously. Hopefully that's what you mean by 4.0?

I work in the game company as a "2d artist" which is basically doing everything you can do in Photoshop. Concept art is included though I have very rarely chance to do any as there is way more other less exciting stuff that has to be done on regular basis.

I consider myself more of a a children's book illustrator. I suppose that does involve some character design. I'm also a doll artist and a puppeteer. But like other have pointed out, this is one of the best forums for the artist on the web.

There's a huge swath of non-CA folks here-- all of whom probably came for the same reason: it's a large, active community. I myself am a comic artist.

Im a comic artist... or sequential artist, or cartoonist. Whatever the name, i make comics. There arent many comic artists in this forum (since there are lots of comic art forums everywhere), but they should, they could use some of the tips and views you find here, or to learn a bit more about anatomy and how to draw an expression the right way. Thats why im here.

CA.org is actually a front. would it surprise you if I told you that over %80 of all people employed in the adult video industry are members of this site. the clues are everywhere if you know where to look.
