E.O.W Round #182: Death's Lobby - (Winner: albino-Z)
E.O.W Round #182: Death's Lobby
TOPIC = Death's Lobby
suggested by Pixeltuner
Sounds of a cloak rustling gently in the wind... or dead silence. Is the afterlife everything it was hyped up to be and more?
Welcome to Death's lobby...

DEADLINE: Friday, February 17, 2012
My starting inspiration was a doctor's waiting room, and I wanted a lone, simple metal chair. I also wanted something "off" about the image, so that led to the skull reflection in the tile. Also a little humor in the "LIFE" magazine on the chair.
A good host always tidies up before a visit.
The concept is Death waiting as his hourglass counts down to the arrival of the recently deceased, as there spirits enter his lobby (via a portal) they surround his thrown to await there fate.
"Death's Lobby is a neutral, lonely place. You face death at the end, alone, where your fate is decided."
The "big death" is meant to be a big statue and a "machine for judgement", impersonal and automatic, weights deeds, and punishes or rewards.
This is a lobby as the place through which afterlife is entered.

Voted for Duman - love the choice of colour and the general eerie-ness to it.

Usuall I am a bit hesitant to comment on pieces but what the heck, some random
Kentawolf : Nice thought out concept and execution, love those visual
clues/elements you have put in the picture.
MartinC : Expressively and with a lot of convidence painted. The setup of the
scene reminded me of your previous entry the centaur meeting point.
Albino-Z : In a way this reminded me also of your previous entry. There is a
really nice flow and rhythm to your final piece and rendering wise you seem to
know what u are doing. The only thing that left me puzzled was your description on
the piece hehe.
Duman : The idea of sitting in that chair with that look through mirror type wall
behind you is so intense, the setting and setup feels to me it could be a great
starting point to build a short movie around, with as main and only setting the
environment u created. Only thing that is a bit off for me is the colour, but
thats my taste.
Great entries again all, on to env #183

My votes goes to:
Corrick - simple yet creative concept, great execution. I liked it better without the big text though.
Duman - very creepy image, excelent idea. Perhaps technique could be "cleaner".
monsi - nice otherwordly feeling, good execution. Even though it doesn't evoke feeling of death in me. Instead it resembles lord of the rings ghosts.
albion-z - outstanding technical side of work, although it resembles little too much dementors from Harry Potter.
KentaWolf - great idea, just perhaps too simple execution.
There are other great entries, but those above are outstanding.
keep it up
