    Plein Air Magazine

Just thought I'd let people know the current issue of Plein Air Magazine (February/March 2012) has a three page article about me and my work. I was interviewed by editor-in-chief M. Stephen Doherty for the piece and it includes images of five of my paintings.

That's tight. Haven't looked at my copy yet, been so busy, but looking forward to it.

Did they approach you? Or did you approach them? How does this magazine stuff work? Were they good to work with?

Most of my magazine articles I am approached by the magazine. Every once in a while if I think I have a good angle on something I might pitch an article idea to the appropriate magazine but that can backfire and magazines have taken my idea and had someone else write the article.

Plein Air approached me last year; it takes about three to six months of lead time for an article. I was interviewed by Steve on the phone and then was sent a transcript to look over for any factual mistakes. Steve was very professional and though we haven't met in person he seems like a good guy from our conversations.

Plein Air, so pretentious. Can't they just use an "a" like everyone else?

    Congratulations!

Just noticed you're in VA. Where?

    Bill,

Thanks, I always thought it should be called 'goin' outside to paint' instead of plein air but not sure if that is good for a magazine title.

My own lame way of pointing to a different thread about pretentious art words. I don't mind Plein Air at all. Short and sweet. My wife spent much of her life in Fairfax and on the northern neck. In fact we lived in a little town called Callao for awhile. Sort of between Fredericksburg and Richmond. I never could get used to the humidity though I have to admit Fall was wonderful.

Spring is also quite gorgeous in Virginia.
