    Koryo Buddhist Paintings

I came to this by an accident yesterday. It made me think about what is art which is beyond money and career or even personal expression.

Wow those were beautiful! I don't think I've seen any Korean art before. The first two were just beautifully composed. Even though they weren't for fame or fortune, don't think that they didn't serve a purpose. These artists wanted these works to be seen because they wanted the images to remind people of whatever the figures represent (compassion, etc.) That said, I'm not sure how public these pieces were. For a real example of "art for art's sake" check out the Tibetan Sand Mandalas which, without photography, are entirely impermanent.

Beautiful paintings in this video. They are in such good condition after being around for hundreds of years. I'm surprised at how much detail is in some of these paintings. Simply beautiful!

Those paintings are beautiful! The level of detail is astounding, and the amount of time gone into them must have been so much.
