Icon MATT's Hi-Res Figure Drawing Sketchbook

THIS is a collection of my latest figure studies from life. I will post regularly every few days, and include a range of gesture studies (1 minute to 5 minutes) medium length poses (10 to 20 minutes) and long poses (2 or more hours). Enjoy!

Great start and good work! Keep 'em coming
Your values are strong in the first piece, love how the highlights fall off on the left arm...chalk on the charcoal? just curious.

Thanks Mane. Yep, Micron Brush nib on the 1 minutes and also on the two more detailed ones directly above it.

Here's some more for class two days ago! This time in a red Pitt Pencil. Top three are 5 minute poses, the last one is 20! With the last one my focus was on unifying shadows within the pose, and it tends to work rather well as long as all the shadows stay within a certain value range. It is a highly effective method that I suggest trying out.

Here's some more from today and from last week. First one took place over two sessions, so about 4 or 5 hours. The second two are done with a red pastel pencil which has proven to be a highly enjoyable tool to use. Second one was a 20 minute study and the last two were done in 5 minutes each.

Drawings from the past two weeks. The top one was done in about 5 hours over two sessions. The second one took about 2.5 hours. The third was about and hour, and the final drawing was a 5 minute gesture. Cheers !

Wow, your figurative work is really fantastic! Both the looser work and the more finished pieces show a confident line. Really impressive.

Here's the latest group of drawings, sorry for the delay.
The first one is a one class (2.5 hour study) using pastel pencil. It occurred to me to try a new technique where I extensively worked the value of the background into the shadowed side of the face.
From that point I very selectively choose where to develop more information and dimension within the figure.

The Second and third set are all 2 minute gesture drawings done with pastel pencil.

Nice studies man! Wish my outlines were as good as yours? Your work reminds me of somebody at Ringling and I can't put my finger on it.

Are you in Fiore's figure class? I don't remember who it was? Do you perchance have curly black hair and glasses?

Nope that's not me, you might be thinking about a kid named gokhan gokseven, but I can't be positive. I'm in two figure classes currently: Hodges Soileau's and Don Brandes' class.

OH, Don Brandes class! So I'm guessing he taught you how to use watercolor?

Naw Brandes hasn't taught us watercolor. Just dry media this semester...we started cast drawing two days ago and I think we are finishing the semester with academic style figure drawing.
