going easy with pencil and pastel tool in Artrage. Also I think I found more comfortable way to deal with oil brush...

I've left this painting above for a quite long time. I felt stuck so I didn't even touch the file for couple of weeks. During the time I was painting key art and storyboard for work with talented teammates. I think I learned a lot from the critiques we had at work because now I finally came back to this and I could immediately see what to fix. I tried to get the value balance right to bring up the focus (dragon) more, adjusted atmospheric lighting to give some depth, and fine tuned the surface detail on the dragon.

    better? it better be.

    Heya, nice SB.

Certainly found your "particle explosion" style interesting, quite a unique take.

You've improved quite a bit since starting the SB, despite it being only a few months, good work!

Last two pieces you posted are quite nice, although with the last one, concerning the Black Dove Angel, the perspective on the glutes is a bit off, re: the right buttock, where the smooth skin and the black feather-leathery-skin texture meet.

(And you have a Cintiq 24HD...you lucky bastard! (Saw your blog))

I like that last one , it's dark and powerful. I have one crit: in the lower right corner everything is getting very heavy, especially with that big black shadow in the back. I'd try and separate the two figures a little more from the background perhaps. But that winged face! Really brilliant. Kudos on the rest of the posts too, horsehead man's a lot of fun.

walnut: thanks for the comment. yep, I have to resolve the weight between the two subjects. the composition was getting too simple...

here's my current solution. adding more elements and defying the relationship between the two more clear. having color helps to adjust the weight too.

going through a lot of thinking and revisions about this piece...

I worked on the background and the girl's face more:
    Attachment 1498416

then I got feedback that it could be even more meaningful to put the setting in realistic environment. so I sort of purified the composition:
    Attachment 1498417

and realized I didn't need that much stuff to tell the concept:
    Attachment 1498418

so far I'm having fun painting walls.

Looking way better. Maybe put something up close in the foreground to create some depth?

your sketchbook is looking wild. dig your style! I would ad more shadow to the guy on your last post, so it doesnt look so flat maybe

walnut: thanks! I think...this comp still works without foreground. I actually like the flatness that makes this look like some kind of early europian religious painting.

Qikalain: thanks for encouragement! yeah a bit more shadow would help. I tried to make it reeeaaallly subtle in this final pass because I like the flat negative space around the figure. I think I see what you mean though. But I believe it's not killingly bothersome to have flat space in this painting.

So, here's the current version as of this morning. I got feedback that the hand on the corner was too photographic and not working together with the angel, so I tried to render it in the same way with the rest of the painting.

I actually have painted the nipples and they look cute and glossy, but since this thread is not rated NSFW I blurred it out.

...probably it doesn't matter anyway with the subject matter. whatever.

We can take a nipple or two round here you know Anyhoo, looking good, only thing i maybe would change is to make the tail more slender. But maybe it was the intention to draw it that big?

holy jubblies, so sick man. Love your colour studies and your current IMC work is really killer, a level up for sure, thinking this much about an image is going to rub off a lot on your work to come. Trying to find something to crit but im afraid this post will hold no constructive value other than draw and post it here plz kthx
