Collaboration - Fantasybattle: lich vs. adventurer

Sup guys, a friend and me are currently working on this collarboration together, one drawing the lich and the other drawing the hero. This is pretty much the first time either of us are working like this so feedback would be greatly appreciated.

    These are the main ideas:
    -Inside a dusky tomb/crypt/ruin
-Magic from lich's hand is the strongest light-source.
    -Weaker light from above.
    -Lich manifesting from mist
-Pillars hinting the environment they are in
    -Blocking magic with sheild
-Lich 2-3 times taller than an average human. *EDIT* nah, just a big human

I dig it so far! However without your explanation, the hero looks wayyy too small. Try including at least one other simple, background or midground element to visually explain the scale.

Please Sir, I'd like some more.

The hero s right leg seems a bit off. It doesn t look good for the pose.

Also the evil guys hips look a little twisted. But here i am not sure if it s the anatomy or the coat gives it that effect.

The picture could also use some environment elements, even if they are only sketched out, to ground the characters. I mean at the moment you can t what distance is there between the evil guy and the hero, or if the smoke from the evil guy is somehow connected to the landscape or it s part of the spell.

    Update!

Hey guys, thanks for the feedback! We've been working some more with the layout, putting them in a more cramped space, trying to get some more action and intensity in the scene.
We're thinking of making some kind of tomb with debris and stuff around, and perhaps a coffin sipping out some mist.

Anyway, what do you think of the overall composition?

The skeleton guy looks like he's staring off to the left of the hero. The foreshortening of the skeletons arm makes the lightning (or whatever it is) look like its shooting towards the side. Maybe the hero should be slid more to the center or the skeletons arm redrawn so his palm is facing the hero.

I think that even if you corrected some of the anatomy issues on the female figure, her positioning would still seem unnatural. I would shoot some reference, and think about shielding yourself while advancing toward the lich, or being caught surprised and pushed off balance by the impact of the blast. Right now she seems to be in a poor position to brace herself, sort of squatting, and her right leg is much too short.

The lich could be a bit more dynamic. Maybe think about the motion of the smoke and how it might compliment his manifestation. His body might twist and robes billow like a cyclone, or he might rise up like a column, hunched over with his hand raised high above his head. Though on the other hand, the relatively static reveal has an appeal of its own, not unlike 2nd edition AD&D illustrations. Also, nice smoke!

    I love this so far.
Only thing that bothers me is the lich's face. It doesn't create enough fear or power.

It looks good! Like others were pointing out, the anatomy is off. But that's not my hangup.

    1. The colors are a bit on the neutral side as a whole. Keep in mind color theory and how you can use the color to guide the viewer.

    2. My main hangup is the composition. It's not bad, but I don't think it's achieving what you would imagine. As the viewer, I'm not in the action. Like I said, it's an ok composition. But I think it would benefit a lot from some dramatic perspective. For instance, we could be at the foot of her boot as she fends off the Lich as opposed to being behind some rocks in the distance.

I like the design of both characters though. Their clothing works well I think.
