Start over... [updated daily no excuses]

    Okay then.

I'm a first year architecture student and we are required to keep a sketch book so I thought what better motivation to keep one going on concept art.

Having lurked here for about 6 years it is about time to.

No excuses daily sketch book time. I will be updating every day without fail in a bid to expand my drawing ability as well as my ability to see the environment in a different way.

Constructive criticism is wanted, be harsh, I don't mind. The only way you improve is by doing, being knocked back and then doing again.

Quick start then. Only allowed 5 mins per page. Just stuff that came straight to my head nothing too structured yet. More interesting subjects/less cliche things tomorrow.

    Update tomorrow.

Day 2 of no excuses sketch book updating.

Quick page spread, 20-30 mins, wasn't counting exact:

Sorry if this is just me but I think you might be doing something odd with your attachments. They're appearing as broken links. Are you using the attachment manager? Could also maybe be a size thing, these are just guesses.

Sorted out the image linking problem so this is two days worth in one as I missed yesterday, but did the sketching.

Again only allowing a maximum of 15 mins but often shorter.

I will start more detailed longer stuff once the current project has stopped taking over most of my time.

First time I have used these pastel pencils:

Realised that I missed a day so went and did this quick sketch of the old Post office which is part of City Square:

Start over... [updated daily no excuses]

    As before about 15 mins.

The whole point is to try and develop quick drawing for the moment. One of the things the tutors are trying to get us to do is get ideas down quickly.

This then leads to developing the design with a wider range of thought process. As everything has to be documented the quicker you can do it the better.

So the plan is to keep these quick sketches up until they are natural and then start doing some more detailed, 'better', drawings for the sketch book.

So tomorrow is just around the corner.

Thinking about how dragons are always portrayed as 'northern' animals. When being reptiles it would make far more sense if they were desert animals and their riders/etc would be more African/north African styled.

Interesting assortment of stuff so far. You seem to be doing all the stuff you need to keep improving, so no advice there.
I like the ink stuff in post 4 - I got into the habit of drawing in pen when I was in college. It forces you to solve problems in a different way and run around telling people to take it up ^_^.
    Anyways, carry on. Happy sketching

While technically not a 'sketch' in the traditional sense this is still a sketch in the sense its an experiment with form etc.

Trying to develop my Photoshop so this was done using simple shapes based around cogs:

    ^ Thanks nelchee

I went to Edinburgh so have not updated for about a week. I wanted to sketch while I was there but the cold made it difficult.

Still the train and hotel allowed some time.

I have just finished Game of Thrones, and before buying the second book, I've started Book of the New Sun.

    Still:

Not sketches but one of the reasons I have not been sketching as much:

The first two are 1:100 and the last is 1:50. They are all drawn on A2 so are pretty big.

This one was interesting, hopefully you can see that I have taken a large chunk out so the stairs can be viewed through what is a solid road

Current project work and moving house has taken most of my time and so have not uploaded for awhile.

Starting to get back into the discipline as I can sketch on the 20 min train journey to Uni.

This was the first time I have used white ink on black paper. Its A2 size, took about 20mins all in all.
