It looks like you master quite perfectly color, value and form. 5th attempt with photoshop, that is amazing man! Did you use reference for the taekwondo one and the skull? If your answer is NO, you just became my new hero

Hi there, nice start to your sketchbook so far. I like the brown bear studies, nice feel to the fur. Perhaps pick the odd bit of detail out with a sharper thinner brush so it doesn't look too 'fuzzy' overall. The close up of the face is my favourite I think. I like his eyes!

The muscle builder is definitely your best I think here : ) Though I like your paint of the martial artists, it seems really organic and candid.

Doing 10 main characters from The Big Lebowski for my Art 224 class.

Quick note, I noticed I need to move the Dude's right eye closer to his nose. I'm trying to work thru these quicker. I think I have roughly 1-1.5 hours on each.

Right now the jacket for Quintana seems more, leather like to me. would a quick speckle brush give it more the felt texture?

And, thanks all for the comments.

trying to get back in to it...

So I asked my Facebook to give me suggestions of scenes to do, etc. and this is the first complete/near complete scene/item

"I want to see chebyrashka standing atop a pile of bodies, planting the soviet flag in the top. He's ripped and wearing a tattered military uniform holding an ak47 in his off hand. Cloudy sky, orange from the fires of war."

And I just realized I never made him tattered & torn... tomorrow

Forced myself to paint after not doing so for 6-7 months

Trying to do 1-hour paints, 1 per day, just so I keep fresh, hopefully get better, more efficient, etc.

One thing that will help is to flatten and simplify. Try not to do a large amount of little strokes to fill in the values. Try to think and be intentional about the values making things up and the shifts between them.

Darth Mauls looking good. I would just try to once again flatten a bit and sharpen the edges up a bit. Just keep cranking things out though more importantly.

the wrestler piece is probably your strongest so far. Really impressive. As JFierce already said avoid the multitude of little strokes. Work with broader strokes as oppose to scribbling in the values. Focusing on looking at and identifying the shapes that make up the highlights, midtones, shadows, etc. Keep posting dude

JFierce: Thanks for the link to that site. I feel like I have decent rendering skills, but as soon as I gotta pull something outta the blue, the quality in detail, lighting, etc. drops immensely. And yeah, I'm still figuring out how to be more effective with fewer strokes. I'm probably gonna try the round brush (or my custom square brush) tonight, instead of the chalk brush.

Ghast: My biggest issue with my Tom Hardy pic is the amount of time it took me to complete. That's why I'm trying to pump out 1-hour speedpaints or at least something under 3 hours on a near daily basis.

    Bane

In Progress Vector Illustration. As you can hopefully tell, I've spent most my time on the mouth area of the mask.

Been figuring out my hierarchy as I go. This is an assignment for a 'Digital Painting and Drawing' class I'm currently in. I hardly ever touch Illustrator. Thank God I decided to try the Pencil Tool...

Really like the Bane illustration! Are you planning on doing the rest of the upper-body as well, or just focus on the head?
I'm quite sorry I can't give you any constructive criticism. I basically suck at digital art, and can't really find much to critique on anyway...
I guess the only actual advice I could give you, would be to just keep'm coming...

    This probably answers your question

For now, this is the final image, but I might wake up in the morning and see things I want to change.

    *EDIT*
Turns out I played with it for about another hour making minor tweaks. I just opened up the image on my second monitor and made mostly/purely stylistic choices/changes, etc.

    Final, for now.

Looking at it, I might eventually retouch the overall contrast of the highlights. I may have spent too much time zoomed in and wasn't seeing the entire composition.
Near the end I had the ref image opened on my second monitor and was able to do some more stylized blending and changes to suit the image overall.
