    Brun Croes - Old & New Work - Updated Feb 7 - Page 2

    Update:

    Hey Everyone,

    Here are a few updates, I'll try to update more frequently:

    This piece was made for an upcoming show named “DES CONTES DE GRIMM” in Gallery L’Art De Rien located in Paris. I chose to do something with the classic tale of Red Riding Hood.
    The piece will be on sale at the gallery, for more info look here:

    Gallery Nucleus recently held "The Beatles Tribute Show". I’ve had the honor of doing several pieces for Gallery Nucleus shows before but I was extremely honored when they asked me to make a piece for this show in particular!

    Both the final illustration (sold) and the sketch are up for sale, so if you think you can give these pieces a new home feel free to drop by Gallery Nucleus!

    Interested in buying one? Go on, follow these links:

    This one is a Tutorial DVD I did a few months ago for Tokkun Academy. Its finally available on their website. They've made quite a few other Tutorial DVDs with some notable names such as:

    The Black Frog, Julien Allard, Derk Venneman, Bengal, Bougnah, Manu Malin, Panda, Miguel Coimbra.

    The Tutorial DVD will take you from the initial sketch to the final illustration. In the tutorial I'll be talking about things such as Color / Composition / Value and all of the things going on in my head while illustrating. Its subtitled (no audio) and is available in EN, FR, CH, JP and ES.

    Original Post:

    Hi Everyone,

    I thought it would be fun to make a thread in which I show some of my favorite things I've done over the past year (2011).

    It was a strange year, lots of ups and downs, plus graduation. Which was a great feeling as I graduated with high honors, but the feeling afterwards to finally be done with school was and still is dazzling! It also goes without saying that I'm currently looking for freelance work! You can contact me by sending me an email brun.croes@gmail.com

    I'm not going to post everything I did here, if you'd like to see more please go to my blog or website, Anyway here goes:

    Lets start with some traditional stuff, the first image was done for Gallery Nucleus, they are really nice people! The other two are other ideas in the same traditional style (Pencil / Watercolor / digital). The last two are older then 2011 I think, but they fit in nicely.

    Graduation Project: " Thief Of Hearts "

    A few weeks ago I graduated from my Master with great honours. It feels strange to finally be done with school. Without going into much detail, I developed a story and told it trough my illustrations. My overall goal was not to make illustrations that were technically impressive but it was more about achieving a certain atmosphere and focussing on the feeling of a piece so that it would fit best with the story.

    Not focussing too much on the technical aspect also helped me to quickly achieve a good result, I spent quite some time on making thumbnails and small sketches before I started working on the final illustrations. This approach helped me to do one or two illustrations a day. This resulted in challenging myself to do 15 illustrations in 15 days, a really great exercise from which I learned tons of stuff. In the end I decided to present the illustrations not as a complete storybook, but as individual pieces built around the same story. Michael Meier helped me by printing these illustrations (as you can see in the pictures I took below) on high quality paper (Giclee on Hahnemühle Cotton Paper). I'f you'd like to see all 15 of them, click here

    @Sullivan: It is scary, but also very interesting and fun!

    A big thank you to all of you who voted for those 5 stars! I'll try to live up to it. Here's a new piece which I did in an hour or 2, a speed painting of sorts, trying to step out of my comfort zone! Hope you dig!

    This thread does not have nearly enough responses. Ca seems pretty dead.

    Love the new works! congrats on being placed in the gallery.

    I was wondering, in pieces such as this: http://conceptart.org/forums/attachm...3&d=1350903225 , do you simply watercolor on top of the pencil? The pencil doesn't wash out or anything?

    @ZombieMariachis: I hope you'll like it!

    @Pavel Sokov: Thank you for your compliments, and yes CA has seen more activity a few years back. About the technique, its actually a funny story. When I developed it I was working with sprays to prevent the pencil from smudging the watercolor. However the sprays often had a weird reaction on the watercolors. In the end I decided to try it without sprays which is how I do all my traditional work now (without spray). The important part is finding the right paper for the job. But to answer your question, there is no spray, its just pencil and on top of that watercolor. In combination with the right paper it won't smudge.

    @Lot: Thank you!

    @Olivier H: I'm glad you like it!

    @alfonsoesposito: Thats really nice to hear! Thank you!

    @Chris Bennett: Thank you sir. Graphic design is my what I studied and I have a strong affection with it!

    More updates to follow in the coming weeks, thanks for looking!

    A Musical Banquet

    Thanks guys! Here's something I did a while ago for Sony Music Belgium / PHL Music Hasselt. A little bit last minute though extremely fun! Mixture of traditional and digital.
