I love your lines and the render with little dots
It looks like you draw pretty fast, but the result is nice.

awsome last drop...actually all of your work is really nice...only crit here is possibly smoothing out your shadows so that you have some transition from light to shadow in your pencil sketches....really liking all of it otherwise... keep up the great work

no more posts in self-thread without a new pic.. even if it is a mediocre excuse like this one
had some time to kill at work while rendering, alas nothing more on me than some printer paper and a shitty H pencil..
    hyver's - things and stuff (yup-dated)
very blunt on the right, then sharpened it for the left one. wasn't really looking straight at the paper either, and it shows also no erases at hand.. bleh..

    feedback response time:

mentler - thanks for stopping by.

jens - cheers bro.. we'll meet again soon (your sleeping bag awaits you)

hurricane - thanks for the input, be assured all feedback is carefully stored in my mind!

warlock321654687984 - thank you too for the input! crits like this are very welcome!

hyver - don't talk to yourself baby

behemot5 - thanks for the comment and visit!

bizarre - ain't it funny how two people can know each other so well in a perverted sexual way, not knowing how their drawing skills are?
thanks for the comment there bro

At first I was a little scared to see a lackor perspective, but I'll tell you, as I dug through this thread you really proved me wrong. Great work in all areas. I just want more colored pieces from you. I love their style.

guess which dvd i watched? :o
in any event it's been good fun to do some perspective exercises, it's one of those areas i've taken for granted too long, and i noticed it ain't up to par anymore... so there :p

    hyver's - things and stuff (yup-dated)
consider this a wip.. will change stuff about the ornaments in the belt, some cloth adjustments and a weapon/staff makeover. might even get some headpiece as well... oh and he needs that other shoe/shinpiece..

    hyver's - things and stuff (yup-dated)
sketched with a big chunk of graphite, was looking more towards finding the values and trying to capture those without much linework. as far as resemblance goes, my gf seemed happy with it.. i'm not too sure though.. i know portraits are one of my most sucky skills, so i figured they ain't gonna get better without trying
the lighting was odd.. bright spotlight top back, and blueish tv glow up front.

i like the bottom two done with blue. the render on the middle guy is really cool for some reason, maybe the simplicity of the bounce light but its just in the right places...

and i dig the far right face, looks natural and observant.

Are your profile view eyes a bit small maybe? Facial anatomy is damn hard man - as you were pointing out in my thread. Im making it a daily thing now when i wake up to do a bit of facial anatomy study. Youve hit it well in your front on and 3/4 views but it lacks a bit in profile.

    Cool man
    Frate!

    for ME? awwww

i like your confidence in your features, and youve set them up pretty well.
is the slope of the forehead too recessive? although its somewhat common for that angle to vary between individuals.

One thing ive noticed in ths and various previous pieces is your hatching style is kind of half way between clean and messy. Really messy can be succesful and really soft/careful can look great too. Im never really sure whether your shading is intentionally rough or its rushed a bit? The firmness of your profile contour suggests that maybe your hatching is an afterthought... which is especially easy to do (for me at least) when working a portrait in profile for some reason. I guess because the shapes in profile are so strong and clear its tempting to start the whole portrait with a single line and less construction...

Render the full face man, thisd look great with a neck and a clear jaw/cheek bone line.

The eye looks good, in terms of size, good work there. I dont see a distinct construction of the eyelids vs the eye socket and so on. The eye is a great place to get a rhythm happening with light - ligh on brow, dark in socket, light on lid, dark then light then dark in eye, light on lower lid, dark at bottom of eye socket and so on. This lends a good dynamic to that area - and its why we are drawn so often to look at the eyes first.

It appears to bear good likeness, although we could do with a snap to compare (i forget if you have a digicam handy or not).

By the way, just how do you manage to do a good side-on self portrait. Never did figure that out (unless using two mirrors).

    Cool!

i'm not saying i nailed perfect likeness here, far from it probably, but i do seem to have a forehead more resessive than what is considered normal...

wellmade points you're making here! thanks for that, it's posts like these that make CA an asset to all people willing to learn. /me bows
in the margin: roughly intended to be rushed (sleep on that for a night - it will come to you :p )
that said, the lighting was pretty flat, and i tried to capture what i saw in the mirror, so not afterwards.. your comment also reminded me to put more thought in how i light my mug when doing sp's.. hopefully i can post a half decent result of that soon

my gf said she saw me in there, but that could mean anything really

you guessed it.. two mirrors. one being held by a black bear on the one side, and on shaving mirror on a stand to reflect it.
tough to move your head back in the right position thuogh, if you happened to have sneezed or whatever. try it, it's fun!

    Cool!

    thanks!

here's the result of a mini TD with bizarre:
    topic Manslug

dude you got some sick creature designs. but on your humans they are lacking. your best bet is to hammer out you anatomy and variations of the face. you have a pretty nice hand when it comes to pencils so just focus on nailing anatomy and structure

The Manslug! It's probably just my mind, a wicked one at that, but I still see a vagina in it's face.

    love it !!

but my only critique is that all the characters seem like a cut and paste job... hard to explain.. hmm...nope, cant explain..

but that queen looks mighty evil !!

Haha, Hyver I love your tdome entry. I'd say it's one of the best entries in there, just because that giant Lego man cracked me up. Really weird concept, but it's damn effective either way.

thanks for the hits guys - appreciate it!

i see so many faults in it still, i honastly cannot call this one finished yet.. obviously the deadline and all the stuff happening around here didn't fit together that well, but that's just how things go i guess.

i too sense the cut&paste feel hurri - maybe it'll be more clear when i post the progress pics.. tomorrow... need.. sleep.. now.. ktnxbye

(edit: added a bit background info below)

i was just typing all this stuff in on irc, so i figured i'd just copy/paste it here:

<hyver> ok so there's the evil princess, sitting on her throne
<hyver> if she'd leave the throne, she'd lose all power attached to it
<hyver> so she had a toilet installed.. obscured obviously, for status reasons
<hyver> but there is the flush thing..
<hyver> the tv screen show her lifesigns, and the guy to her right is like waiting for the perfect opportunity to overtake the power. he has a grudge against her because she made him wear that bunnyhat
<hyver> the slave girl up front is about to get executed.. you know, bread and games. The method used is the two lizard type creatures will rip her head in bits with the reigns
<hyver> the horned demons are like the keepers of the lizards, the one on the left is like holding back his pet, because he's waiting for the order which the guy at the princess' feet is just about to give him
<hyver> the demon to the right is trying to wake up the more lazy lizard, as he just received the order from his commander with the mace
<hyver> the grumpy old bold demon however has grown rather fond of this particular slave, and hates to see her go.. he's contemplating on saving her, at risk of exile
<hyver> the rest just doesn't care cause they're evil

a BIG shoutout to Bizarre for injecting me with awesome ideas! you'll be my bunnyhat for life dude!

scannage from the little brown book... hitec pen and white pencil beefage.
most of these were done as prelude to the Light Bringer C.O.W. which i didn't submit due to a lack of electricity/computer/wacom/scanner/internet while camping.
