    dumbnudge's dumb nudges

    Hello everyone!
When I first saw this site a year ago I was amazed by all the awesome artists and their rapid improvement, so I started to draw more and more, but I did not really get the hang of it (nor did I have the guts to join CA). I hope that is about to change now, so critique is very much appreciated.
    Let's have some fun
    __

So, here is some stuff from this evening!

Edit: Moved it to the next post for thumbnail's sake.

Today I did torso studies from Hampton and Hogarth, I think I have finally understood how those muscles interact. I did a portrait study as well, but it took far too long and sucked, so I gave up I'm completely lost with colors and painting, but at least I know what to focus on.

You have some pretty nice sketches here. 60 secs is kind of impressive, you inspire me to try that too

@Trixtar: Thanks! Please try them, I find them helpful for warming up.

I studies shoulders and arms today (Hampton) and did these two quick photo studies of Otto von Bismarck and Harry Potter's uncle, just research for this year's major project... The last one is my first attemt at a self portrait. Lost interest after 20 minutes because it sucked

    @ElricSlinger: Thanks, mate!

Had lots of stuff to do today, so there was very little ouput. It's so depressing to notice that can't actually do anything at all, I don't know where to start.
I reached the 300th 60sec pose, so I'll now do 30secs. I tried to build a reffed head with planes and then color that, but that just failed miserably. I guess I'll have to do some value studies and practise rendering. The quick color study is from reference, too.

Nice poses! You should try a page from imagination after such a huge amount!

@Gibi: Thank you very much for this advice. I did some (below the 30secs), and I feel they help me.

This Cicero study took me way too long, about 3 hours, but it really helped! I tried painting it by blocking in values rather than doing a line drawing, and I used the soft brush for the first time. I like the outcome, although I did not finish it. The environment was great fun too, from imagination.

Just stuff from today. The soldier was a quick brush experiment. Did a study too, but it needs some work, so I'll post it tomorrow.

Today's shit. The colors in the study are all wrong, but I'm quite happy with at least getting everything in place, if anything.

Nice job on these studies! You might want to try using a harder brush in your paintings, all your edges are soft and a good crisp edge would really stand out.
Try out the links in my signature and see what you think, you might prefer those sites to posemaniacs. And you might want to take some time after doing your gestures to work your way up to some longer poses, like 20 minutes or an hour.

Shaping up quite nicely! Love the quick sketches, I agree that some more from imagination would be cool to see too.

@Vertical: Thank you! I do longer studies on paper, but I'm too lazy to set up my scanner I'm using the hard round brush most of the time, I just have to learn how to paint with it, I guess
@Blueflies: Thanks! I'm working on imagination stuff, just trying to build a solid foundation for that.

Ok, one quick portrait from imagination. This really sucks, but school started again and I had no time at all today. I promise I'll do better!

    Junk

Sorry for the bad portrait thing. I drew it from imagination and liked the lines, but I really was not up to color it. I have to do more studies on that!

Hey guys, just a quick update, being sick so I have little energy to do anything. A few quick very rough environments, set on one base color each. Learned a lot, though they probably don't look like anything at all. The figure took me way too long, so I stopped it. I'm having huge problems coming up with anatomy, natural poses and skin color from my head. And everything else as well. Argh!

    busy, busy, busy!

Just a quick photo study. I just can't get skin tones right, they always lose saturation and turn out too brownish

Finally got my scanner working (somewhat), so here is some analog stuff from this evening. The two faces are from mind, the other thing is from a photo, just a scribble for a watercolor portrait that I want to do. Each took just about 5 minutes due to a lack of time and enthusiasm.

    Not dead, just lazy.

Hey guys, long time no see! The last two months were not the greatest, I didn't get anything done and school and life were real bitchy. There are no excuses on my part, I just hope it's going to get better
Anyhow, here are two pictures which I'm quite fond of. I painted them as presents for my family. Greetings!

Here are some studies from today, some Loomis and skulls from awesome refs by Gloominatis (there is a link in his sb). I'm doing lots of that pencil stuff at the moment, but I'm usually too lazy to scan it. I also attached my first COW entry (for last week). It was a lot of fun, and I learned a lot (e.g. to notice challenges earlier than two days before deadline ).
    Have an awesome wednesday!
