    Upgrading my workstation; Suggestions?

I've been wanting to reduce lag and hopefully improve the speed of my current workstation. Then again, it's not much of a workstation being that I bought it straight off the shelf of Best Buy. I'm rocking an HP Pavillion P6000(exact specs) and I primarily work with Painter 11, Inkscape and SketchBook Pro.

SBP flows smoothly for its simplicity but the other two have a hard time keeping themselves from falling apart when I work on 300dpi documents.

I've thought about sticking 16GB of RAM into it, but then I'm wondering if that'll solve my problem or become a waste. If it's the latter, does anyone else have a better suggestion for an upgrade? I'm open to anything at this point since I'm still saving up till I'm able to build my own rig.

    -thanks

Strange, I had a Athlon XP II 250 and even when using the onboard graphics HD4200 every program ran smoothly, granted that single-threaded programs weren't very fast on it since AM3 single-thread performance is quite bad to say the least but they were perfectly usable.
