    Nibs on pen getting scratchy

Hi I am new to wacom tablets but I noticed after a week or so of using the pen that there was a sharp or scratchy section on the nib. I am very careful with the pen and often wipe the tablet free of any dust. So I replaced the nib and now after using this new nib for a few weeks, I have noticed the same thing.

Is this normal behaviour and how can you avoid it?

    Thanks

Yes the nibs are supposed to wear out after a while. That's why they come with replacements.

There is a problem though with newer tablets, (intuos 4, bamboo) they added a "paper like" surface, which wears nibs way faster than usual. In 2010 i think they even re-released the tablets with a new surface, you can read about it here:

I placed a thick acetate sheet with some paper tape and the nibs stopped getting scratchy. Some people just use regular paper.

I've been pondering getting an Intuos4, is this still a problem now or are the chances of me getting a pre-2012 version from somewhere such as amazon really high?
I had the scratchy sensation a few times on my bamboo but a quick wipe of the nib seemed to fix that problem.
