Great stuff man. I really dig your ductus. Especially in your last piece and the one with the girl and the dog. Very dynamic!

    Amazing work Lane.

I'm liking the traditional look to your work and the constant experimentation, its inspiring.

I also appreciate the GIF tutorials and links to your reference/inspiration, it gives us a real insight into your process.

    Thanks.

I almost missed the Spider in that last one. Very well done. I feel like the way you executed it, I'm as suprised by the monster as our hero is.

Wow, this is an awesome sketchbook! I admire your use of color/palettes. But i much more love your composintional skills, especially your use of light in compositions. Can you tell me which masters you oriented on/studied? Would love to hear. I studied a little Thomas Moran, i think he uses light and shadow pretty well to help his compositions.

Oooh, your sketchbook is so delicious. My eyes can consume your work for breakfast, lunch, and dinner! But in all seriousness, the quality of your work is something to aspire to. To attain that fluidity in my brushwork, and understanding the workings of color and light? I would be ecstatic. It all comes from diligent practice and application, right? Heheh. Thank you so so much.

Beautiful work Lane I love the way you use lighting and of course your brushstrokes always create a fresh painterly feel. So nice to see some other "Lane's" representing in the art world ... not so many of us
    Keep up the good work!

    Thanks everyone!
I've started a lot but finished little lately. Again, I feel like I am suffering from a lack of focus. I'll begin one project then lose motivation as interest in something else suddenly steals my ambition. I really envy the artists who can find satisfaction in a particular subject and pursue it to the finish line, repeatedly.

I've decided that too often I'm trying to create an image that tells a story while also having some broad appeal. It's an impossible goal, and leads to abandoned paintings. That revelation came to me while I was doing this simple study. A painting doesn't have to tell a story. It's okay to just focus on a simple objective, such as creating a sense of light on the side of an ugly guy's head. Sure, it's not a profound painting. Maybe it's not even very good, but at least it did get finished and I learned from the process.
