    Barry Sachs Sketchbook

I've been busy finishing my second children's book. Unfortunately I cannot post any of those pieces until the book is finished. However I can post sketches and studies that I have done while waiting for feedback on my work and/or during downtime at my 9-5 job to help pay additional bills. Hopefully these quick studies count as sketchbook entries.

These were done in the past 2 weeks, each one was maybe 3 or 4 hours. The Alphonse Mucha piece is not finished yet as far as the background/circle design is concerned but I think its at a point where crits would be helpful.

Next up will hopefully be some sketches/studies for some portfolio pieces I have been dying to work on.

    Portrait in white

I started this study last night. I spent maybe 45 minutes working on a drawing and than maybe about an hour today working on the digital study. I tried something different which was erasing out of a grey tone to start, much like a method of oil painting that can be done. I believe it helped me achieve contrast between the soft and more opaque thicker brush marks.

Ok, so I decided to go to color and do a bit more refinement.
It wasn't until I stopped at this stage that I realized the palette resembled something out of an Alberto Vargas painting.

    Quick study in the park

This was originally done as a color comp for an oil painting I did.
However I found that color comp and decided to do some work and start to turn it into a finished piece. Currently it is not finished but in that in between state.

Did a few more edits to this piece. Mainly trying to add some sharper details and tweaked the colors a bit. I also went from using a round brush to a rectangular brush. I really enjoyed this change up.
